| hey guys!!
in modifying the ARC path, one of the optional switches in the boot.ini file is:-
/fastdetect=[com x ][com x,y,z.]
now, i understand that this switch disables serial mouse detection and that without a port specification, this switch disables peripheral detection on all COM ports. this is the default switch in boot.ini file.
QUESTION:
what is the significance of this switch and why would it be default if it actually disables serial mouse detection?
am i missing on something? | |

| I've been wondering about this too! But I've heard it's to avoid problems with UPS... | |

| probably applies to anything that might be connected to the seriel ports, when you are using a PS2 mouse. we once connected some backup seriel connections to important pc's for Y2K in case the LAN went down, these were direct connections to stratus servers, but everytime you revooted the PC it kept wanting to install a 'detected' seriel mouse. (NB this was with NT, I don't suppose Windows 2K is any different) | |

| Well, W2K is Plug and Play... | |
