|
|
|
| hello,
I am doing my best to set up a home lab so i can start studying for the mcse.
got 2 machines one running w2kpro and one running the server version.
the problem is this : the machine dont see each others.
they have different netbios name, same workgroup, different ip same subnet cards are working ....
the ips i am using are :
212.110.12.2 for the w2kpro
and 212.110.12.1 for the server.
I am missing something ?
Can you please explain step by step what i should do as I am ready to start from scratch..
thank you. | |

| Hi Perdu,
Do you have same user accounts created in each machine. At least you may need to have one account for the two machines. Otherwise when you connect from one machine to the other you have to enter username and password. For me I set my machines to have same Admin password so that whenever I want to connect they can communicate with each other.
Once everything being set up properly, try to spend sometime practice NTFS and share permissions.
Good luck,
Cuong. | |

why do you use this ip address?
i recommend the use of private class c ip address.
set one machine with 192.168.1.1 and the 2nd one with 192.168.1.2
put both machines in the same workgroup.
rename one as pc1, and the another one as pc2.
make a conectivity test:
* check link
* ping localhost (127.1.1.1)
* ping extreme host by ip
* ping extreme host by name

| hello,
thanks for the reply,
here is an update.
now the server can ping itself, can ping the win2k pro machine can ping the loopback adress and can see itself, but the workstation cant ping itself or the server.
now I know that there is something wrong with the tcp/ip configuration but what ?
thanks | |

| Try to reload the ip protocol in the network configuration, it might clear the problem. Also, be sure don`t have any $ sign in the server shared files.
Hope this help. | |

| You might have a dead nic card on your workstation. | |

| do an ipconfig /all on each machine and confirm that you're machines are on the same subnet
see if you can ping each machine by both IP and Netbios name
have a spare NIC card for the professional machine.
check your cables and hub or switch

agree.
he must check LINK / ipconfig settings... he must check if both machines are in the same subnet checking the ip/subnet address. |
