Author Recovery Console or Emergency Repair Process???

I am confused on when to use the Recovery Console and when to use the Emergency Repair Process to fix a problem. Transcenders say that you can use both to fix a corrupted boot sector. It seems like both can be used for several things and I am wondering if there is an easy way to decide which to use when! It seems like whichever one I choose, the answer is always the other one! If anyone can offer any clarification or tip on when to use what, I would be so grateful!!!

Whether to use the Recovery Console or ERD depends on the specific problem you want to fix up. Recently I've posted some clarifications about this. The previous post you can find here:

Thanks ... I read your previous post, which is great information, but it reinforced the fact that there are often two ways to achieve the same result. When a microsoft exam asks for the best way, is there a way to know what they think is "best"? I'm thinking that ERD is always the last resort, but on my practice exam, ERD is the answer sometimes. Is there a rhyme or reason on picking the "best" way?

You use the last known good, when you have a device problem and you can get the old device driver back. ie: update new nic, video, scsi, or audio drivers, and system blue screen, use last known good.

Safe mode, when you installed new hardware and cause the system to fail, and you need get systme backup. ie: you installed a new NIC, video card, audio card or scsi card. And system failes, you download the latest driver, you may use safe mode to fix it. You also use safe mode to remove running drivers that you cannot remove durning normal boot.

Recovery console is when you have sytem or registry problems.

ERD, is the last resource to get your system backup.

good luck...
