Problems to Install Win2K Professional

| I was trying to install Win2k on my computer, but I ran into this quite wierd error. I did all that good stuff, you know, partitioning, formatting, etc. I am using Win98 Setup disk to do all that. When the Setup disk is being loaded, I get this error message: ASPI8DOS.SYS Failed.
And then when I try to proceed with the installation of Win2k I get another weird message: PROGRAM TOO BIG TO FIT IN MEMORY.
How can that be possible? I am almost sure that it may have something to do with the first error, but how would I fix that?
Any ideas will very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot! | |

That message is actually normal. You might see the same thing with a different boot disk too. Like a Norton Ghost boot disk. It's because the setup disk attempts to load various drivers to determine whether the device that uses those drivers exists on the system. The second message may be a result of too many device drivers trying to load in a limited memory space.
Try to boot directly off the Windows 2000 CD to partition/format/ & install Windows 2000. That is the recommended way!
Hope that helps... | |

| Also found that it is related to scsi devices and cd-rw .Try the boot from cd like
Tech Shark mention.
Good luck let us know. | |

Thanks a lot for the help. You guys are great. However, one part of the problem is that I am dealing with an IBM Aptiva, and trust me, I've done everything to access the BIOS in order to change the Boot sequence, but I can't. Delete won't work, nor will F10 or F1, F2, you name it! | |

| Hmm...pressing F1 repeatedly when you see the blue IBM screen for Aptiva should get you into BIOS screen. I guess you could try other key combinations such as ESC, Ctrl-Del or Del.
For reference, if you have any problem getting around password protected BIOS the following link http://www.labmice.net/articles/BIOS_hack.htm
has some great tips. G'luck! |
