Windows 2000 professional replaces Windows NT workstation and as you rightly pointed out Windows 2000 server (In all it's guises) is for the server backend.

From your CCNA you will know how to connect the two, network wise anyway.

Welcome to the track JayDot!

Here are some clarifications about W2K platform:

Windows 2000 Professional - a desktop operating system that includes the best features of Microsoft Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation.

Windows 2000 Server - a file, print, and applications server, as well as a Web-server platform, that contains all of the features of Windows 2000 Professional plus many new server-specific functions.

Windows 2000 Advanced Server - This product contains all of the features of Windows 2000 Server plus many new.

Windows 2000 Datacenter Server - This is the most powerful server operating system by Microsoft. It is optimized for large corporate environments and contains all of the features of Windows 2000 Advanced Server plus many new.

Thanx for Clearing that Up..

One More Question...
When Installing over a Network, I understand You must Install the Installation files on Distribution Server.. Also you need Client Software to install on client so it can connect to server and download installation files...

My question is How do you install Client Software before you install the OS-workstation software...

The RIS Server seems to be Logical and Effecient. From My understanding all you need is Network Card(PXE) and Remote Boot Disk( RIS Server)

Here is a link that will tell you how to make a network boot disk so you can connect the clients to the distribution server.

http://appdeploy.com/articles/bootfloppy1.shtml

Note: You will need an NT 4.0 disk to get a couple files from it to proceed on.

As far as RIS is concerned there are a couple of different ways. The first one is if you have a PXE-compliant card, and if you don't have one, the other option is to create a boot disk from the RIS server. Adminpak.msi will also give you the files you need to create one. (Deja-vue where you at ) There is limited support as far as what cards you can use, mostly 3Com I believe. If you can support RIS, it would be much easier than trying to create a network boot disk. Its a royal pain in the a$$ to do.

RIS also requires a little more in depth knowledge to configure along with the appropriate services running in your network. For example you will need DHCP, DNS, and Active Directory to support deployment.
