And today's poser is ....

Q19. Alison works for a company that will be deploying 150 Windows 2000 Professional workstations into two floors of an office building. The company that is using these two floors is running a Windows 2000 Native Mode domain.

Alison is investigating the use of the Setup Manager tool to create scripts to support automated installations that might be used in deploying these 150 workstations.

Which of the following types of installations can be completed using an answer file created with Setup Manager? (Choose all that apply)

A. Windows 2000 Unattended Installation

B. Sysprep Install

C. Active Directory Installation

D. Terminal Services Installation

E. Certificate Services Installation

F. Remote Installation Services

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

I'm going to go with A, B and C. Active Directory can be installed by entering the DCpromo.exe command in the GuiRunOnce section of the answer file. There may be commands to install Terminal and Certificate Services using the GuiRunOnce section, but I am not familiar with those commands. As far as Remote Installation Services, Microsoft supplies a tool named Riprep.exe which creates the answer file for RIS images. I suppose one could use Setup Manager to initially create an answer file for RIS, but one would need to make manual changes to the file including changing the name to "riprep.sif". Frankly, I would rather take the less time consuming route, and use riprep.exe to create answer files for RIS installations.

And the answer is ....

Correct Answer: A, B and F

When you run the Setup Manager Wizard you are prompted with three possible answers to the question "Which product does this answer file install?"

The possible answers are:

-Windows 2000 Unattended Installation
-Sysprep Install
-Remote Installation Services

The Setup Manager application is available on the Windows 2000 operating system CD in the Deploy.cab file of the \Support\Tools folder.

The text file created by the Setup Manager application can also be edited using a standard text editor such as Notepad.
