| hello all.
so i'm having this problem. i've had win 2000 for almost a month now and yesterday i started having probs with the internet. come to find out that when i leave my computer on for a while and it goes into sleep mode my ip gets switched to a 169.x.x.x #. this didn't happen before when it went to sleep mode and that was after i had win2000. i changed the ip to a static address along with everything else. seems to work ok now. should i be worried about this and does anyone know what might be causing it? thanks

| Is your computer on a network of any sort - peer to peer / server based?!
You can disable APIPA in the registry...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ Tcpip\ Parameters\ Interfaces\ Adapter subkey - create a REG_DWORD entry called IPAutoconfigurationEnabled and give it a value of 0...
... but assigning a static address obviously does the trick so I wouldn't bother!
I don't get the sleep mode problem, that is truly wierd?!

| yeah i have a peer to peer home network setup. the other two computers have win98 and winMe. they don't experience the problem at all. i checked when my ip got switched to apipa and their internet was working fine. just though i'd ask. it's very weird. thanks |
