Q83. After you install Windows 2000 Professional, the Network Identification Wizard may start. The wizard displays the user name provided during Setup and sets this user name as the default logon account name. If you accept the default user name as it is presented in the dialog box, you may receive the following error message:
Windows cannot load the users profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.
Detail: The system cannot find the specified path.
The logon dialog box is on a 30-second countdown timer and continues the logon attempt but the desktop does not appear. Instead, you receive the following error message hidden behind the Welcome screen:
C:\Documents and settings\ Username \Desktop is not accessible.
The folder was moved or removed.
If you click OK, the desktop is displayed.
If you click the Start button, causes the button to be depressed and stay depressed and the Start menu is not displayed.
If you right-click My Computer, click Manage, and then attempt to use any tools (or if you attempt to use any tools from Control Panel), the following error message is displayed:
Temporary directory is not found or there is not enough free space
What is the most likely cause of this error?
A. Windows 2000 Professional has not been completely installed on your machine.
B. The C:\Documents and settings\ Username \Desktop is corrupt.
C. The user name you typed during GUI mode Setup contains a space or backspace as the last character at the end of the name.
D. The user name you typed during GUI mode Setup contains a space.

| My best guess would be C due to the GUI that comes up after installations has problems reading that last character as a space. | |

This behavior occurs because the user name that was typed during the GUI part of Setup contained a space or backspace as the last character at the end of the name. This will cause Setup to create an incomplete user profile, which is located in the %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\ Username folder | |

| I choose 'C',I have never actually read anything about spaces / backspaces being a problem as the final character, but I choose the answer just by process of elimination, nothing more. | |

Correct Answers: C
CAUSE
This behaviour occurs because the user name you typed during graphical user interface (GUI) mode Setup contains a space or backspace as the last character at the end of the name, which causes Setup to create an incomplete user profile located in the %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\ Username folder.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behaviour, press CTRL+ALT+DEL and restart the computer, or log off and log back on. This action creates a new user profile and you can successfully log on.
A new user profile is displayed as %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\ Username . Computername (where the user name contains a space and the local computer name is appended).
MORE INFORMATION
This behaviour usually occurs when you install Windows 2000 Professional in a workgroup setting and automatically create the user name during Setup. Setup creates a user account that contains the information that you supply when you are prompted for a user name and company name during GUI-mode Setup. |
