I have installed a USB scanner onto my 2000Pro system and everything works fine as long as I am logged in as Administrator. However, even a Power User can't get access to the device....errors all over the place. I have looked through all the Security and Policy Objects but can't see anything that fits with access to a twain device....Any solutions??? All help greatly apprieciated. Thanks.

Johnny,

Got a similar problem - but I can't even get my scanner to work while logged on as Administrator!! Everythings loaded up correct just doesn't want to play.

So if anybody can answer your question - I'm gonna purloin the solution and give it a try with mine!

I could be wroung on this but here it goes. It says that you are using a USB scanner if im not mistaking windows has to re-detect the hardware every time you log on. When you are on as administrator does a add hardware wizard pop up every time ?

Hey thanks you guys for replying... OK. Add new Hardware Wizard does not pop up every time the PC boots, the hardware is already installed. (i.e. the drivers). Also the scanner can be 'hot' plugged and unplugged. Works perfectly as administrator. I had a look in the properties of the device and under status it says 'ready'. Logged in as any other user (even Power User) the scanner is installed and the drivers are working fine but the status says unavailable, which leads me to think it's permissions. In fact, when I put the 'user' into the Admin group, everything worked fine under that login.
Incidentally - Same deal applies to write access to my CD reWriter.
I have looked at all of the group/local policies and permissions to no avail.

SOMEBODY HELP!!!!
