Before I post today's poser I would like to take this opportunity to wish Claudio Rivas Good Luck as he takes this exam tomorrow.

So today's poser is ....

Q79. Your computer operates a LAN supporting computers running Windows 2000 Professional. Other users on the network need to edit offline documents in one folder on your computer running Windows 2000 Professional. If users edit both the cached offline copy of a file and the network version of a file, which two choices exist when you want to save all changes without renaming one version of the file? (Choose Two)

A. Use the Indexing Service to merge the changes.

B. Use the Synchronization Merge Wizard to merge the changes.

C. Overwrite the cached version with the version on the network.

D. Retain the cached version and do not update the network copy.

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

... I say C & D

because...

1. I have not heard of a Synchronization Merge Wizard (not to say there isn't one)

and

2. I don't think the indexing Service can perform such a task.

There is a Synchronization Manager.

But I think I'll go with C and D also, as these are the options in Sync Manager.

And the answer is:

Correct Answers: C and D

A. Incorrect: This service does not play a direct role in managing Offline Files or the synchronization process.

B. Incorrect: There is no such wizard included with the operating system.

C. Correct: If both the cached copy and the network copy of a file are changed, during synchronization, a Resolve File Conflicts dialog box opens. This dialog box contains three radio buttons. The first radio button allows you to save both files with different names. The locally cached copy of the file is renamed by appending the username and a version number to the prefix of the file, and then it is copied to the network. The cached version of the original file is replaced with the network copy of the file. The second radio button allows you to overwrite the network version with the cached version of the file. The third radio button overwrites the cached version with the network version of the file.

D. Correct: This is equivalent to the first radio button in the Resolve File Conflicts dialog box. The cached version is renamed and copied to the network. The network copy of the file is not updated but during the synchronization process, it will replace the locally cached version of the file. The Resolve File Conflicts dialog box also includes file version information, the ability to view both versions of the file, and a check box for configuring how all synchronization conflicts will be addressed.
