Safe Mode or Recovery Console?
|

| I'm just wondering if anyone can clarify when to use Safe Mode and when to use Recovery Console. Particularly in the case of needing to reinstall/uninstall drivers, it seems like both could be used, but I think Safe Mode would be the easier route, right? I'm just having a hard time deciding which of the two to use when.
Thanks! | |

| isn't device manager generally pretty handy for that kind of stuff? | |

| I just had to go through this with xp a few hours ago, and I can't remember how I did it, (sieve brain) think I went, safe mode/systemrestore.
I am uniquely positioned that it is in my best interests to take the most cowardly/idiotproof route available | |

| Thanks, Wbafrank ... this white paper is really good. But it clearly states in this paper that you can use both to disable a device driver, and as I am preparing to take the 70-210 exam soon, I am wondering which way Microsoft would want you to answer the question. It seems from what I've read, that both can disable a device but Safe Mode requires the least administrative effort because it is a GUI interface. I just am trying to make sure I'm interpreting correctly. I'm not exactly clear on when you would use recovery console instead of booting to safe mode ..... | |

This is a key sentence with MS exams. With this in mind you would boot using the Safe Mode in the first instance and if for some reason you are unable to do this you would then use the Recovery Console.
Does this help? | |

| THanks .... so for disabling drivers, etc., I'll use the "boot to safe mode" option. For what circumstances would recovery console work best??? I'm thinking maybe to copy a missing file (boot.ini, etc.)??? Does that shound right? Are there any other key circumstances that would prompt you to use recovery console over booting to safe mode? |
