| I have a computer with win2000 server on a 1.2GB drive (NTFS). I added another drive to install win2000 professional. I booted from a DOS boot diskette which loads CD drivers. I executed WINNT from the CD, Setup copied files, prompted me to remove the diskette, & rebooted. However, it booted directly into win2000 server.
Next I edited the boot.ini to add a line with the arc path to the new drive's root directory (for dual boot), but then when it booted up it just hung when I selected the option to install windows 2000 (versus repair or exit). I believe the drive is too small (850MB)
Next I decided I would copy 2000 server to the second drive using ghost, install 2000 pro on drive C: Ghost says I have bad sectors on C: (doesn't like NTFS?). Is there a utility to copy NTFS partitions? Or convert it back to FAT? | |

Regarding the question above, you can convert FAT or FAT32 to NTFS, but I don't think that you can convert NTFS to FAT or FAT32...

| Ghost handles NTFS disks/partitions just fine. We use quite a bit here at work.
As for a utility that converts NTFS back to FAT, there is no such animal that I am aware of.
Ghost is not the problem. (Just my opinion)
On one of my test systems, I had a Server/Professional dual-boot setup. The system had 2 HD's and I installed Professional on the first drive(C: ) , then installed Server on the second drive(D: ). I did not run into any issues. | |

| out of the box, ie as far as the test is concerned, you cannot convert from NTFS to FAT.
You can however back up the data, reformat the drive in FAT and restore the data from backup.
For the real world, you can simply use Server Magic to do a convert from NTFS to FAT.
As for your issue, Ghost can indeed read NTFS, so it shouldn't be a problem. Are you using dynamic disks? Some versions of Ghost don't like that at all | |

Is Server Magic a commercial program?
The drives are basic. I'm thinking that it is the 2000 flavor of NTFS my ghost doesn't like. Perhaps my copy is old. I've had several different copies floating around my house/work/van. I'll probably try a newer copy if I can get one.
