| I just recieved my Aplus certification in the mail from Comptia. I will be taking my network + soon. My next step will be obtaining my MCP then MCSA.
What tips would everyone suggest I take to prepare myself for the 70-210.

| First of all - congrats on passing your A+!
Secondly - let us know if we can help you along the way as you prepare for the Net+ exam.
Okay, now for the Microsoft prep:
Get a copy of Windows 2000 Pro and start using it. Apparently, the 70-210 test is all about hands-on knowledge.
Also, I've heard studying for 210 and 215 together will make them both easier as there is overlapping information.
Oh, and be sure, when you're ready to start studying for MS exams to look back at this forum and the 215 forum history. Check out the questions posted daily by [B]wbafrank[B]. These are good examples of the types of wordy questions MS throws at you.

| Congrats on the A+!
For 70-210, here is what I suggest you use to prepare:
1.) Hands on training. Live, breathe and eat windows 2000. Build a network, mess it up, fix it, build it again. Configure every service about 50 times until you can do it in your sleep.
2.) MOC - Do the labs backwards and forwards.
3.) MCSE training kit...do the labs in there too.
4.) Take lots of practice tests. I use self-test software to prepare (www.selftest.com) because you can breakdown your scoring by category--allows you to see which areas you need the most help in so you can focus your studies where you need it most.
5.) Technet (www.microsoft.com/technet)
6.) This and the server boards...very helpful!
Good luck to you, remember, you can do it!

| I have Windows 2000 Professional, been using it since its debut, all except a little short stints with Windows XP.
Okay when you mean every service... what does that mean ? I have created a small network.
I have two computers currently using Windows 2k proffesional and One computer using Windows XP. My current configuration allows me to share my cable modem via ICS. I don't have money for a cable modem router so I went the cheap route and used my existing 4 port hub. I using third party FTP server software, and third party ftp client software. What other configurations should I throw in the mix.
Oh BTW thank you everyone for the warmest response

| When I say every service, I mean DHCP, DNS, WINS, IIS, RRAS, etc. etc. etc.
Set up one of your machines as a server and run dcpromo.

| Ooops, sorry!!
That's what I get for posting at 2 am !!!
Apologies all around. The link is in fact, www.selftestsoftware.com.
One more thing to add....get the downloadable version. Then you can use it for as long as you like. The other version can only be accessed on their website and you have only 30 days.
Good luck and again, sorry for the botched link!!

| Okay I am really POOR. I have been unemployed since January. I have little if any money for any preparation material from these sites.
I am wondering if anyone has anything that they are willing to offer for free ? Or Know any Legit sights that offer it. I need to enhance my marketability...

| One more suggestion....
It may not hurt for you to go out and get an entry level IT job. You have your A+, so that will certainly help you get your foot in the door. We all have to start somewhere. Not only will some extra cash in your pocket help you pay for things like practice exams and prep material, but you may even find a company that was willing to help pay part of or all your certification expenses. A lot of employers have programs designed to train their IT personnell.
|
| Right now I thinking of making soliciting myself on the free way entrances with a sign saying.
Layed off will offer helpdesk solutions to your Wans, Cans, Lans or Mans.

Load your Operating system for FOOD !!!!!!!!! |
