| Here is my story, I have not taken a MS exam to date, frankly a little nervous about it. I have been in the industry for a number of years, and have a few other certs (I-Net+, Server+, Network+)and I study had for each and passed on the first run. I do not work as a systems administrator but feel very comfortable around Win2K (not so with the admin part of the OS). I am using the MS book and will also use Transender questions, needless to say Examnotes and such. Any other insight from you folks...is there really much of a difference between MS tests and the cert test I have already passed.

| Welcome to the forum first off. It always good to be a MS Professional. If you read the book and do use it on the side with transcender. You should pass with no problem. Exam 210 and 215 are the beginning steps. It eventually gets more harder up the ladder | |

| ...in my opinion is in the length of the questions. You'll find that the MS questions are a lot longer with more fluff in the question than the CompTIA questions were. Look back over the 210 and 215 forums for wbafrank's "Question of the Day" and you'll get a good idea of how wordy the questions can be.

| I've only taken Microsoft tests myself, and I've left more than my share of sweat on the poor mouse! I'm surprised the mice don't short out on those systems! I usually find I run out of time before I can check over the questions I'm not sure about. True, there's a lot of fluff in the questions. Tip: ruling out incorrect answers by process of elimination is often helpful for single answer questions. "Check all that apply" questions are the worst when you don't know how many answers are correct. Also, eliminate irrelevent material in the wordy questions.
Also, you should have a couple of minutes after you enter the testing room before you click on the start button. If so, use this time to jot down on scrap paper info you reviewed at the last minute before you forget it, then start test. Good luck! | |

| Would like to say thanks for the information, and have one more question. I've heard that you cannot go back and change the answers on MS exams, is that true? Once you click next reviewing that question is no longer an option, or is thisa the case with only certian test?

| The test I took in December allowed me to (if I'd had the time). It was the Win2000 core accellerated. But I believe the adaptive tests do not. Not sure which those might be. Anyone? | |

| The exams I took last year allowed me to "mark" questions for review. Then allow you to go back to them if you had time. | |

| Yes, as far as I remember, you can mark questions and go back to them. I hope they didn't change it...that feature really helps a lot.
One suggestion I have to prepare for these exams is take lots of practice tests! I use self test software which is very cool. When you finish a practice test it breaks down the questions into categories and tells you how you did on each category. This helped me a lot because it allowed me to focus on areas that I struggled the most with.
Finally, taking lots of practice tests get you used to the microsoft format. This is very helpful since (as already mentioned) they are always a lot of unnecessary fluff in the questions.
Here is my favorite one:
You work for a rubber doggy doo mfg company and have 4,958 win2k servers and 1,059,343 win2k pro machines in 2760 branch offices all over the world. Joe, in the houston office, trips over a cord and pulls the plug out of the wall which causes a short and now the coffee machine doesn't work. The IT Department revolts and goes on strike so you are left to manage the entire company's domain by yourself. What is two plus two? (Check all that apply)
A. One
B. Two
C. Three
D. Four
E. None of the above apply
F. DHCP
G. DNS
H. System State Data
(Gee, I think it is time for me to call it quits for the evening)

| That reminds me...I believe there was a general rule that on "check all that apply" questions, there were at least 2 correct answers. In fact, I believe I have been seeing them worded like "choose 2". That definitely helps if you know how many answers are right! But there are still those that don't tell you how many. | |

| Hello everyone
Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I could add to this one.
I just completed the Network+ certification and I want to begin the MS certs. My goal is to earn the MCSA. Now, I know there are individual text books for the three exams I want to take (70-210, 70-215, 70-218). But is there just one text that covers the Win 2K entirely?
The 70-210 would have to be a text by itself. But the 70-215 and 70-218 are server and network topics, and I would think there is a bit of overlap of information between the two. Is there a text that covers the Win 2K server and network environment? | |

| not that I know of
and I'm pretty sure there is more overlap between the 70-210 and 70-215 than any other tests |
