| Hey everyone,
Perhaps one of you brilliant folks can help me with this strange problem I'm having with Win2k pro. DSL is finally available in my area. Got my "self-installation" kit, installed everything, comes up and runs great on Win98, no problemo.
I have a multi-boot configuration.
Boot W2K, can't install.
SBC tech-support says "Corrupt Win2k, blah, blah, blah...reinstall."
OK...whatever, I go ahead and blow out that partition and install a fresh copy of W2K, SP2, clean device manager, etc. Same problem.
The basic error I'm getting is showing up when W2K detects the DSL modem and tries to install a file named "NTSPPPOE.SYS". The install program fails here saying unable to install EnterNet PPPoE client... I've searched every drive in my system, W2K CD, CD provided by SBC. Their tech-support is killing me!!!
Has anyone seen this??? Any input from one of your great minds would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! | |

| Have you tried to add the adapter manually through Add/Remove Hardware? | |

| I did a search of the MS Knowledge base for that file and came up empty. I would say it's a file specific to the DSL modem. This is the closest I could find http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;en-us;Q285609 It references Mindspring specifically. Although, some reading around leads me to wonder if you have ICS turned on on the Win2k side... You might want to search MS Knowledge Base yourself with the specific brands of equipment you are using. | |

| I have SBC also, running dual boot 98/W2K. (Why? I don't know! )
I did not run into any intall issue. What modem do you have? Which NIC? Which CD? (I have the Westell WireSpeed, the LNE100TX Fast Ehternet Adapter, and the silver CD.)
Mine is also setup showing two connections. One is for the Fast Ethernet adapter and the second is for the NTS Enternet P.P.P.o.E Adapter. The P.P.P.o.E adapter has a default gateway setup, and the Fast Ethernet does not.
As far as that file, the only thing I can find on my CD is an .inf file, (NTSPPOE.INF).
P.M. me and I will give you my e-mail address and maybe we can work on this.

| I don't have ICS enabled. No routers...yet . Going straight to the NIC from the modem to the phone outlet.
Mr. Fixit.. I've got the yeller (excuse me..yellow) CD. I opted not to use the Dlink adapter that came with the kit. I'm using An Intel 845 MB P4, 1.7ghz, with Intel NIC down. I've got the Speedstream 5360 modem from Efficient.
If any of you are interested here is a great website with tons of information regarding PPPoE and DSL http://www.carricksolutions.com
The guy that runs this site offered me a couple of options, and suggested, switching to RASPPPoE, which is native to Win2k.
I'll let all of you know how it works out
Thanks again! | |

| What version of the Enternet software are you using?
I know some of the earlier versions had some W2K issues. I wouldn't put it passed SBC to be behind in issuing new CDs. Efficient's website says that earlier versions of Enternet had problems UN-installing the NTSPPPOE.sys file but no mention of installation problems.
I too have SBC DSL but I've been fortunate enough to upgrade to the Enhanced service. $15 more a month but I get 8 static IPs and no need for PPPoE.

| I have version 1.40 and have not had any issues with W2K. I've had DSL since around June of last year with no problems. (Other than the usual garbage from SBC.) | |

| Thanks to all of you for your efforts..
I downloaded the RASPPPoE software from http://www.carricksolutions.com. This solved my problem.
The above website has alot of great information, as I mentioned earlier. If you ever experience a DSL or Cable modem problem you should check out the forums on that site.
The webmaster is always around and really has his stuff together.
Now its time to add a router or two...and really start to get my FREAK on..
Have a great weekend everybody!

| I apologise for not getting back to you sooner. That is a great link you posted! SBC never told me they had a new version of EnterNet out, wonder if I need to upgrade? Haven't really had any issues yet, (other than coming home on occasion to find the server dropped my connection! )
Glad you found a solution so quickly! (My mouth is still numb, no excuse for the fingers!) |
