For those of you who haven't read the corresponding thread, I figured I'd share this Tip with you!

Forgot your W2K Admin password... No, you do not have to reinstall. (Don't tell Microsoft!)

This is a tool that everyone needs!!! Go to this site...

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Go down to "How to get it?" Click on bootdisk, instructions, & image to download...

Print out this page, it has the instructions on it. Then go down to "download" & download the "bd011022.zip" & "rawrite2.zip." Extract these files to a directory (example: c:\tools), and then run this command from the command prompt:

C:\tools\rawrite2 -f bd011022.bin -d a:

This will create your Linux boot disk with the reset password utility. Then boot from this disk to reset you password. You can follow the prompts and accept the defaults for pretty much everything.

Your path to the registry directory should be winnt/system32/config which is the default option. You should NOT have to disable safekey. Then change your password.... you will have to type "y" to accept any changes and then enter. It should say "changed"... Then type "!" to exit, & type "y" to make the changes & writeback the changes to the NT disk/filesystem.

Then you will get a "#", it is done... Just press Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot & you can now get into W2K.

This has not failed me yet!!

Hmmm...I could've used this a week ago. o well - nothing wrong with reinstalling and cleaning everything out every year or so.

Not at all, sometimes you just need the format & reload. But in my work environment I don't have that kind of time!!!
