And the answer is ....

Correct Answers: C

A. Incorrect: Windows 2000 Professional supports hundreds of network adapters. Windows 2000 attempts to automatically detect the network adapter during operating system installation. If the NIC is installed after installation, Windows 2000 attempts to detect and install a driver for your adapter. You can initiate hardware detection routines after operating system installation by using the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard.

B. Incorrect: In most cases, if an incorrect driver is installed, Windows 2000 will not load it.

C. Correct: Each computer on a network running TCP/IP must be assigned a unique IP address and a valid subnet mask for the network segment in which the computer is connected. In a routed network, a default gateway address is required to communicate with computer resources on other networks. Additional IP addressing information - such as the IP addresses of DNS hosts on the network - might be required. Addressing information can be manually configured or automatically assigned. Automatic, centralized assignment is achieved by the DHCP Server service. In a simple network not running the DHCP Server service, you can avoid manual configuration by using APIPA.

D. Incorrect: It is possible to experience a network failure separate from the computer. However, this is not the most frequent cause of TCP/IP connection problems.
