And today's poser is ....

Q53. You are the administrator of a LAN supporting computers running Windows 2000 Professional. You have almost completed your Group Policy settings, and all users have access to Windows Help. You want to achieve these results:

1. Prevent common users from using the Administrative Tools folder in Control Panel.
2. Prevent common users from using the Display program in Control Panel.
3. Prevent common users from using the Internet Options program in Control Panel.
4. Prevent common users from using the Network And Dial-Up Connections program in Control Panel.

Your proposed solution is to configure the Hide Specified Control Panel Applets Group Policy setting to hide the icons for Administrative Tools, Display, Internet Options, and Network And Dial-Up Connections.

Which results does the proposed solution provide? (Choose all that apply)

A. Users are prevented from using the Administrative Tools folder in Control Panel.

B. Users are prevented from using the Display program in Control Panel.

C. Users are prevented from using the Internet Options program in Control Panel.

D. Users are prevented from using the Network And Dial-Up Connections program in Control Panel.

E. Users are not prevented from accessing any of the specified Control Panel programs or folders.

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

i think this is a tricky question, but i think none of this options is correct.

The explanation of this policy mentions that this policy applies only on Start Menu and Control Panel Window. Do not hinders the execution for Control Panel Elements, the Control Panel Elements are at %systemroot%\system32 folder, the user could search and execute them with the correct permissons.

Since Frank "re-worded" the question, , I will have to reword my answer.

A, B, C, & D. The Hide Specified Control Panel Applets Group Policy setting would allow you to select the specified programs and folders and delete them from the Start menu and the Control Panel.

(However, it does not stop users from "running" the program from the command line. Also, the user can still run the Internet Options from inside IE through the Tools menu.)

Sorry folks! Been a longggg dayyy! Did not get the "perfect" job I was going for, and it really messed up my head! Got put straight however. As stated above in parentheses, the proposed solution "does not" stop the users from accessing the programs and folders.

So in this case, E is the correct answer.

Very tricky question!

Confusing question that way it's worded. I will try to answer exactly how it's worded...I will say ABCDE...ALL! ABCD is correct becasue they cant access the specified applets IN CONTROL panel, but E is also correct because it does not stop them from accessing the progams entirely.

After totally ruining this question - I just happened to leave out an answer!! And the answer is ....

Correct Answers: E

A. Incorrect: The Hide Specified Control Panel Applets Group Policy settings allows you to disallow Control Panel programs (.cpl) files or folders from appearing in Control Panel. This does not restrict the program from being started by other means. Control Panel programs are associated with CONTROL.EXE so that when a .cpl file such as ACCESS.CPL is run, CONTROL.EXE opens the Accessibility Options dialog box. Control Panel folders, such as the Administrative Tools folder, are opened by EXPLORER.EXE. Therefore, just hiding the program or folder does not restrict the user from accessing the feature in some other way. Many of these programs are also available from Windows 2000 Help.

The Hide specified Control Panel Applets Group Policy settinbg is applied through local computer policy or, in a network running Windows 2000 Server, through network Group Policy. The specified .cpl or folder name added to this policy setting will not appear in Control Panel. This policy is located under the User Configuration node in the Administrative Temaplates\Control Panel container.

To limit access to the Administrative Tools folder, verify that the Display Administrative Tools check box is cleared in the Advanced tab of the Taskbar And Start Menu Properties dialog box. Then enable the Disable Changes To Taskbar And Start Menu Settings Group Policy setting. This setting is located under the User Configuration node in the Administrative Templates\Start Menu And Taskbar container.

B. Incorrect: As described earlier, the program or folder can be accessed in other ways even if it does not appear in Control Panel. You can open the Display Properties dialog box by opening DESK.CPL. Opening this .cpl file is equivalent to accessing the Display program in Control Panel.

To disable access to the Display properties dialog box, enable the Disable Display in Control Panel Group Policy setting. Configure this setting under the User Configuration node in the Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Display container.

C. Incorrect: As described earlier, the program or folder can be accessed in other ways even if it does not appear in Control Panel. You can open the Internet Properties dialog box by opening INETCPL.CPL. Opening this .cpl file is equivalent to accessing the Internet Options program in Control Panel.

To disable access to the Internet Properties dialog box, enable the Group Policy settings located under the User Configuration node in the Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel container.

D. Incorrect: As described earlier, the program or folder can be accessed in other ways even if it does not appear in Control Panel. You can open the Network And Dial-Up Connections dialog box by opening NCPA.CPL. Opening this .cpl file is equivalent to accessing the Network And Dial-Up Connections program in Control Panel.

To disable access to the Network And Dial-Up Connections dialog box, configure the Group Policy settings located under the User Configuration node in the Administrative Templates\Network\Network And Dial-Up Connections container.

E. Correct: As described earlier, a number of other ways exist to start programs or open folders that are typically available in Control Panel. To disable a user from accessing all .cpl files, enable the Disable Control Panel Group Policy setting. This setting is located under the User Configuration node in the Administrative Templates\Control Panel container.

How come I can not find this Group Policy Setting. Is this in Win2K Professional?

"enable the Disable Changes To Taskbar And Start Menu Settings Group Policy setting. This setting is located under the User Configuration node in the Administrative Templates\Start Menu And Taskbar container."

I can not find this container either. Please advise me where I could find those settings.

Thank you.
