Didn't Pass 72-210
|
|
|
| I failed 72-210 today with a 520 score. Yes, the exam was coded 72-210 not 70-210. Prometric indicates 70-210 and 72-210 are the same exam but that 72-210 exam is pushed down when you pay with a discounted exam voucher. That aside this was a tough exam. Not just difficult tasks, also totally new concepts.
It is back to the study material to prepare for another try. Thing is, at this point I need to locate an additional source for prep. Today's experience tells me that MOC is much too basic, as is Sybex study guide, and that Transcender does not include representative exam scenarios.
To prepare for this exam, I:
Took class at Microsoft certified training using MOC. Completed all live exercises in MOC using training center's server and workstation setup.
Read Sybex Study Guide cover-to-cover.
Ran Transcender Procert 5 (downloaded updates periodically) getting scores 850 - 900. Nowhere near questions found on MS exam.

| I would try and either buy the MCSE Training Kit or the New Riders book. I do not like the Sybex book it is far to basic for this exam.

| I agree that Sybex are too basic for the exam. Back to the books. | |

| Bad luck 0007, but don't give up ok, I'm sure you'll nail it next time. | |

| Have to agree with Frank and Johnny5Alive on this, Sybex is no good for this exam. New Riders in combination with the MOC and hands-on is the best.
Don't give up, you can get this one!

| I agree with you the MOC is basics but still good. I didn't really like Transcender for this exam or EE - you're on your own with this exam. | |

| But you'll get it next time... The Exam Cram for this test is an excellent review right before your retake as well. It hits on all the key areas. Besides my hands-on experience, it was the only book I used. | |

| The Sybex Study Guide is a good enough read.
It explains a number of concepts and tasks well, the simulations on accompanying CD are very good, and its exams on accompanying CD quiz you well on the book's content.
The only problem is that the Sybex content is about 50% the level of difficulty of the actual M$ Exam content. In short, too elementary.
An interesting observation, I subscribed to the cert21 exam 70-210 (30 days for $29.95) and a ton of their exam questions are word-for-word from the Sybex exam questions at end of chapters and from Sybex CD.
