| Hi guys,
Sorry about the basic questions for you guys, but I want my windows 2000 machine and Mac to talk each other. My windows machine is connected to a modem(Terminal Adapter) by USB and has dial up connection. I want my Mac(ibook) to connect to windows machine.
Can I connect my Windows and Mac directly via Ethernet cable? Or I should use Hub.
I tried to connect them via Ethernet cable but Mac didn't responde at all...Maybe I picked the wrong kind of cable...

| you need crossover cable for your setup.
I would recommend getting a cheapo hub and just use regular cable, its a much better way as its easier to visualize the topology and easier to add future expansion. | |

| If you don't plan on adding any more computers a crossover cable will work just fine. Do you have Appletalk installed? | |

| Potatohead, If he was connecting to 2K server would you recomend file services for Mac and or Appletalk? If it were a 2K pro would it be the same, nethier or reverse? | |

| Crossover cable is a must of you are not using a hub. 2 'puters cannot talk over a standard LAN cable , say CAT 5, directly. Of course it's better (but not for technical or communication reasons) to use a hub (only for future expansion) but if money is an issue a simple x-over cable can be bought or made for a few dollars. Also use Appletalk protocol on both machines, and TCP/IP if you are connecting to the net. | |

| I don't know that much about Mac's and Appletalk, but I would have Appletalk installed on any PC connected to a MAC. | |

| For Win2k Server, install service for Macintosh.
For Win2k Pro, install third party softwares. |
