And today's poser is ....

Q35. You are an administrator for a corporate network supporting 50 users running Windows NT Workstation 4.0

You want to perform RIS-based remote installations of Windows 2000 Professional on your network clients without using the remote installation boot floppy. Which conditions allow you to perform remote installations? (Choose all that apply)

A. The computers on your network are PXE compliant.

B. The computers on your network support operating system-level remote control.

C. You have a Windows 2000 Server infrastructure in place.

D. You have a Windows NT 4.0 Server infrastructure in place.

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

For me the answer is A & C because:

A. The computers on your network are PXE compliant. (you need a PXE compilant machine in order to make a net boot and contact DHCP / DNS / RIS srv

C. You have a Windows 2000 Server infrastructure in place.
(you need a Win2k srv (services needed for Remote installation: DHCP / DNS /RIS )

I too will go with A & C. Having a 2000 structure is required since RIS is a new feature to Win2k. And it won't work if the PCs aren't PXE compliant.

You right. RIS is a new feature in windows 2k, but you can install ris images to computers that are donīt PXE using the remote installation boot floppy. In this scenario of course, this donīt apply...

And the answer is ....

Correct Answers: A and C

A. Correct: Remote installation refers to the process of automatically booting to the network, connecting to a RIS server, and starting a clean installation of Windows 2000 Professional. To automatically connect to RIS, the computer must support or emulate PXE.

B. Incorrect: Remote control is a feature that allows a computer called a viewer to control the keyboard, mouse, and monitor of a computer called a host.

C. Correct: RIS is a feature included with Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Advanced Server. It is uesd to deploy new installations of Windows 2000 Professional. Therefore, a Windows 2000 Server infrastructure is integral to using RIS. Additionally, the PXE client uses DHCP to initiate the process of remotely installing Windows 2000 Professional on a client.

D. Incorrect: A Windows NT 4.0 Server infrastructure cannot support RIS because it is a new feature in Windows 2000.
