Disconnected Network Drives

| I have a user using W2K Pro machine, every time he logs on to the domain, his network drive automatically has a red X through it. It's a NT4 domain, no other user has this problem. We use a logon script and automatically have thier folder on the server mapped. He has access to the folder but it still has the red x. If I disconnect it, then re-connect, it's fine until you either refresh the window or close it and re-open it. I alreday checked the autodisconnect in the registry, and it is exactly the same on that machine as all other w2k systems. Any Ideas would be helpful. Thanks | |

| I don't know why Win 2000 does this, but had an entire domain of Win 2000 servers and 2000 pro workstations. Every machine had this red x on their network drives, yet all drives were still active and accessible. We never did find any documentation on it and since it didn't seem to be hurting anything we left it alone and simply explained the situation to the users. | |

| The only thing that I can figure is that autodisconnect is kicking in as soon as the drive is connected. If you click on the drive, it works fine so it's not a connectivity issue. If you map a drive to the server, it comes up looking normal but as soon as you refresh the red x comes back. I suppose I could change the values in the registry to never autodisconnect, but what is the point. It seems to be just a cosmetic thing. I was hoping someone else had this happen and found something I could'nt think of. This is the only W2k machine that does this and it's a fairly new installation. Thanks for your reply Pavlov. As you said, the drive works as it should, just looks bad. | |

| Yes, The system in question shipped with W2K Pro installed from the factory. I don't think that's the problem. If it makes any difference, it's a Gateway. | |

| I too have a NT 4 domain with a Windows 2000 Server (file server), and I'm using Windows 2000 Pro on the desktops. I get the red cross as well, but I've always ignored it.
I do have one particular user (VPN user) that complains all of the time, becuase he says he thinks his connection to the network is intermittent! (this guy's a moron)
However this is happening in our office as well, so if anyone has a fix then I'd at least keep this one user happy! |
