And today's little number is .....

Q33. You are the administrator of a LAN supporting computers running Windows 2000. A user calls and reports that he selected a .bmp file for the background wallpaper on his Windows 2000 Professional computer before choosing to use Active Desktop wallpaper. The Active Desktop runs in the foreground, covering up the system wallpaper. When he presses Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Active Desktop is disabled and his .bmp file appears. What is the most likely cause of this behaviour?

A. The registry is corrupt.

B. This behaviour is normal.

C. A conflicting user profile exists.

D. A conflicting GPO exists.

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

I'm going to have to go with "B" on this one. Why would "A" be a choice?

And the answer is ....

Correct Answers:

A. Incorrect: Active Desktop configuration information is stored in the registry under the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mic
rosoft\Internet\Explorer\Deskt
op registry key. Below this registry key, the components key contains information on all added Active Desktop items. There are other important subkeys, such as the Safe Mode key, which is loaded when starting the computer in Safe Mode. If the Desktop area of the registry were corrupted, Active Desktop would fail to load on startup.

B. Correct: Active Desktop is part of Internet Explorer and is overlaid on the Windows Explorer shell. If you choose a .bmp file for the desktop wallpaper and then use an Active Desktop element for the desktop wallpaper, the Active Desktop element is displayed on top of the .bmp. When you log off or when you are logged in and you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Active Desktop is not running, so the .bmp file appears.

C. Incorrect: User profiles are connected to the user logging on to the system. A single user profile is merged with All Users profile when a user logs on to the system.

D. Incorrect: The question describes configuration procedures undertaken by the user, so the behaviour exhibited by the computer is unlikely to be related to Group Policy settings.
