I'm currently 17 and taking a 6 month MCSE program at a local college. I am planning to take the first test, 210 around the end of March. Am I too young to be an MCSE? If all goes well, I will have all tests done by the age of 18. How old were others when they got their MCSE or MCP? Any responce is appriciated.

It is irrelevant my friend as it really doesn't matter. All you need to ask yourself is are you really interested in IT or are you just doing the MCSE as a hobby. I wish you the best in your study and quest for MCSE.

Age is not the issue - but experience may come into the equation. Most company's require you to have some helpdesk experience before moving up the ladder. Therefore, your MCSE may not be recognized until you gain this experience.

This is just my opinion, but I have seen inexperienced MCSE's on helpdesks, waiting for the chance to move up the ladder.

Exactly to what Frank said, Age is only a number. If you have a goal you wish to achieve. You achieve that goal. Never let one person, or complication get in your way.

Go get your MCSE!!!

I don't think age should ever hinder anyone. One of my sons is 19 now, and he had his CCNA when he was 18, and he has shown many experienced people many things. It is all about working together and keeping our eyes open to learning.

Sometimes experience allows a man to get too comfortable and he needs the younger bucks to keep him in line...hahaha

I am often amazed at how some just have better skills in some areas than others. Some have to work harder for the answers and others don't.

That is just the way we are made

Peace and may you find your talent.

One of my best students was 17 when he first came to us. By 18, he was an MCSE, a CCNA, a CCA and an MCSE+I. He is now 19 and he added the MCSE 2000 and great Linux experience. He would pass a test like the Linux+ just by showing up

Age is irrelevant if you have the goods. I graduated from high school at 16 and was teaching at MIT by the time I was 25.

At the same time, remember that it is not a race. It is about passing tests that mean something, meaning that we must have more than just test knowledge. Make sure to get as much hands-on and experience as you can to complement your studies. I congratulate you on your goals and present achievements.

By the way, you are 17 and still in high school... what is taking you so long?

Hey freak, I'm not in highschool anymore. I graduated at 16, just like you. I am attending college and studying for the MCSE exam. My track is get MCP, then MCSA(less tests) then MCSE. For everyone else, thank you for your support. I have already 9 months experience and counting. I am volunteering at a high school as a Junior Network Admin, so I learning alot. My first should be the real test of how much I really learned. Last thing, does anyone know great advice for the A+ test. Something really quick, nothing big. I am just planning to go and take the test, I just need something quickly to remind me of the stuff I forgot.
Thanks again.

I would either look in the A+ forum and check to see what everyone is talking about or post the same question there.
