I amusing TestOut software to study for the exam and so far find it to be very helpful. I went through the first 2 cds for Pro and server and now I am going through the exam outline module by module and taking the testout practice tests and I just bought exam drill since they also break it down by the different objectives.

I find this to be very helpful. I am now going over the implementation of resources section and although I do not find this difficult to understand it is a lot of information and can get confusing. Especially remembering all the rules for encryption and share permissions and NTFS permissions and when they apply and effective permissions. Which apply on Pro and which on Server, stand alone, workgroups, domain controllers......AHHH.

I am sure I can expect more of this type of thing so I was wondering if anybody had any study methods to help get all of this to stick so that I do not confuse the rules.

Thanks

I'm also using the TestOut product. I used them for NT4 and found their practice tests and end of section tests to be much more difficult than the actual MS exam, but then that was over two years ago.

I'm just getting started and since I'm unemployed at the moment, I have lots of distractions to help keep me from studying. I try to set aside at least one hour a day to work on one of the modules. Unlike you, I am still working my way through the first CD I also have the MS Press Training Kits and Dummies books. I try to work through the TestOut module then read the corresponding sections of the text books to reinforce.

The key word in all of that was try!

So far studying is losing out to just about everything else in life. But boy is my house clean now

The best way to learn I find is by doing it - practice, practice and practice!!

If this is not possible then it's a case of reading and re-reading!! If you do get confused just post your problem and we will be more than willing to put it into "laymen" terms for you!!

I thought that was how you got to Carnegie Hall?

Seriously, if you can't get a lot of hands on, reading and re-reading is a good way to go. I find that if I highlight pertinent info in my books, and also write it out on a pad of paper, I tend to retain it better.

Also, try the practice exams. ExamDrill.com has some great practice test, so does Cert21.com. They have a lot of free test, and you can purchase their exams for a nominal fee.

Good luck on all your future exams!!

Thanks for the tips, I have been doing most of those things.

I went through the CDs once and now I am really studying them and using practice tets at the same time. I went through Installation and I am on to Resources now. I am not having trouble understanding, it is just the amount of info to remember.

The one thing I have going for me is a boring job that allows me to study for 2-3 hours a day.

Another thing I tried was writing down notes by going through the exam outline then typing them in my own outline format. The only thing is you have to delve much deeper than the outline objectives say to. I am finding that after all that work that I am not even really using the notes. The only advantage I may have gotten from them is absorbing the info as I write it then type it.
