hey guys, taking my test in about 4hrs. I have a question that's been bugging..I get mixed answers from people on this.

QUESTION:
Your desktop computer has Windows 2000 Professional installed. You create a new dial up connection to connect to the Internet. You configure the Internet connection to enable Internet Connection Sharing. After you configure the connection, you cannot see or connect to any shared resources on your
local network. You want your computer to be able to connect to shared resources. What should you do?

A. Configure the dial up connection to disable shared access
B. Configure the dial up connection to disable on demand dialing
C. Disable data encryption in the new dial up connection
D. Use the ipconfig command to release and renew your network TCP/IP address.

A or D? Anyone?

I think D because you have to renew the ip address on the client so it will use DHCP from the ICS computer

I agree...

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Good Luck

I would go with D
When you set your ICS up it changes the IP address to 168.192.x.x on the adapter and you will not have the correct IP to acces the network

"D" seems like the logical answer.

Correct answer D:

When you use Internet Connection Sharing in dial up connections, the computer receive a ip of 192.168.0.1 and wait for computers searching DHCP servers for ip configuration. The computer that sharing the connection, deliver a ip configuration to this computers as a Dhcp server!!

When you set ICS in this computer, you lost your normal configuration in your ip configuration for your nic because ICS change a normal ip network range for the new 192.168.x.x segment and you lost the access to shared resources!!!

example: if you have your network in the range 200.36.173.1 - 200.36.173.1 /28 and you activate a ICS in your computer, you lost your ip from this range and become a 192.168.x.x machine so you can access the another computers in your network with the old 200.36.172.x /28 range
