I NEED TO KNOW HOW I CAN SHUTDOWN WINDOWS 2000 AUTOMATICALLY EVERY DAY AT 11:00 PM.

I HAVE SOME ATX SHUTDOWN TOOLS BUT I WANT TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH ANY OPTION IN THE WINDOWS 2000 OPERATING SYSTEM.

Let's try..

I know you can use APM for auto-off for
hibernate.
ACPI for Wake on timed event, wake on LAN,
wake on ring...
One of the five system states for APM
is APM Suspend:The system is not
operational, with most devices unpowered.
The CPU clock is stopped.

I have no info. on time ajustement.

Did my best...

For wake on the computer i use the Bios setting in the Power section. I instruct the mainboard to power up every day at 08:00 am without any problems.

at 08:00 am, Bios instruct atx power to power up the pc, the pc make a POST, check SCSI disks, memory, etc, check the four cpu operation and then windows 2000 boot up without problems until the log on screen. in that moment, all DHCP / WINS / DNS services are running OK.

I want to make anything to shutdown the Server at 11 pm with Windows 2000. I have third party software that can make that but i need to know if Windows 2000 have any feature for that.

thank you

Hi cm2gj,

If you have access to a Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 resource kit. You can use the shutdown.exe program.

You could then create a batch file and include the shutdown.exe command with the following command line switches.

shutdown.exe /L /T:03 /Y /C

/L - specifies a local shutdown.
/T:xx - sets time delay to shutdown
/Y - Answer Yes to all prompts.
/C - Forces running applications to close.

You could then schedule a task to run the batch file every night at 11:00

I haven't tested out the scheduling part, but I use shutdown.exe quite a bit and it works fine.

If you don't have access to the resource kit. Private message me with your email and I'll send it (shutdown.exe) to you. The shutdown.exe file is very small, only 34KB in size.

HTH!

Hi cm2gj,

Unfortunately, the Resource Kit is not included with the Windows 2000 Installation CD.

You either have to purchase the Resource Kit from Microsoft or if you have a subscription to Technet, the Resource Kits will come with that.

If you want to test out the shutdown.exe program, let me know and I'll fire it over to you. PM me with your email address or just send me an email.

Take Care.

Hi, cm2gj!

I was talking about MS OS features with someone who had recently been reading a computer magazine in which he read that Windows shutdown is a feature that had always given problems on any computer products. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. So, i guess they'll be trying to fix that during these days when they are focusing on fixing and patching their software for a whole month, instead of making new applications. I hope!
