| I hope someone can help me.
I recently upgraded my computer from Win98SE to Win2000 Pro.
I have 2 Partitions on this computer C: and D: C: is my primary boot partition and D is a logical drive. Before the upgrade everything was fine but now..
Every time I start up win2000 now i get the following message.
Checking file system on D:
The type of file system is fat32.
One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check but it is recommended that you continue.
Then there is a message counting down from 10 and tells me if I press any key it will skip. If I press a key computer continues to boot up fine. How ever if I let it continue on counting down to 0 I get the following.
Windows will now check the disk.
Volume serial number 6600-b05d
Windows is verifying files and folders....
0 percent completed
At this point the red HDD light comes on and nothing happens. Light stays on and the percent completed doesn't change. I have waited like 10 minutes or so with no change. Must do a hard reboot to get out of it.
However if I skip the start up chkdsk and continue to boot into Win2000 and go to the CMD prompt and do Chkdsk d: /f I get the following
Type of filesystem is fat32
Volume Data created on 3/25/2024 12:47AM
Windows is verifying files and folders
Then a rapid, approx 30 second count up from 0 percent to 100 percent
File and folder verification is complete
Windows has checked the file system and found no problem.
then listing of all the drive data such as number of files folders free space ect..
So the question is why do I keep getting the diskerror message at start up, why is it unable to finish the chkdisk at startup, What can I do to stop it in the future?
Also I am able to access the drive d: just fine from within win2000.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks a million

| did you format each partition with a deferent file system, I have experienced this some times when using, e.g. ntfs for drive C: and fat32 for drive D:? | |

use disk management to check the disk or partition.
try to use 3rd party software like norton disk doctor.
try to run not a checkdisk, instead make a right click, tools, check integrity.
i hear about some problems with checkdisk and windows. you can disable this issue on the registry.
you must read this entire post to found the solution!!!!!!!!:
