| Hello everyone:
I did some work for a customer with his W2k pro. after, rebooting the only password on the system, that he knows of, is not working, can't format HD. Need to know how find out what the real password is or create another one. Any cracks, special software? Please help.
Note: The work done on the PC was adding a cd burning software which I know 100% it is not related to my problem

| I understand deleteing the SAM's will revert the pc back to original passwords, but will also reset all security settings, so only use as last resort. try to back up drive first, IE use GHOST so you can always return it back to how it was.
Disclaimer: I take no responsibility for it going tits up.

| I use the Winternals Adminpack to get in and change passwords.Works on all Win2000/XP Server and clients, will not work on DC's.
There is also Linux boot disks available on the Internet for free to change passwords, they are supposed to work fine, i never tried them.
Or, just do like enforcer said, delete the SAM file to get back to square 1.
Resetting the password using winternals takes less than 5 minutes.
(but the software costs about $900)

| Before you take drastic measures check to see if the caps lock and numbers lock (if numbers are used) are engaged.
You probably did that already. I know it sounds stupid but it happens. A lot.

| I have tried that Linux disk, I works good
only trouble is I forgot where I got it.
Do a search on google for "Password"
should be able to find it that way

| yea, try the caps first off, after reinstalling win2k pro on one of my systems I couldn't get in, here I had the cap locks on during the password portion of setup. |
