Hi everybody,

I'm preparing for 210 and I came across a few of these questions. i can't quite figure out some of them.

A lot of ppl here have tons of experience at networking and Win2k so I'd really appreciate it if you could give me your thoughts and opinions.

I've attached a small txt file with this post as well highlighting my reasons for going with a particular answer.

I'll try a couple. Use at your own risk!

quote:
2.Your desktop computer has Windows 2000 Professional installed. You create a new dial-up connection to connect to the Internet. You configure the Internet connection to enable Internet Connection Sharing.
After you configure the connection, you cannot see or connect to any shared resources. You want your computer to be able to connect to shared resources.
What should you do?

A. Configure the dial-up connection to disable shared access.
B. Configure the dial-up connection to disable on-demand dialing.
C. Disable data encryption in the new dial-up connection.
D. Use the ipconfig command to release and renew your network TCP/IP address.

with ICS, we get a mini-DHCP as well. if i choose D, i'll get the IP the mini-DHCP assigns me, i won't be able to see or connect to any resources still..so that makes the answer A? disable ICS?

This comes from the Technet W2k Pro Resource Kit - Chapter 22

All computers on your network that access the Internet by means of Internet Connection Sharing must reconfigure their TCP/IP configurations to use DHCP. Each computer in the network is reassigned an IP address from the reserved IP address range 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. As with the ICS-enabled computer, the change in IP address might cause you to lose connectivity with other computers in the network that use static addressing.

This supports your theory of A. As typical with these questions, you don't have quite enough information. Assuming the network issued static IP's prior to this scenerio, then the answer would be A since "Have all other computers switch to DHCP" is not an answer. Also, the scenerio doesn't tell you if this is the only NIC in the computer. If that is the case, A is the answer.

quote:
3.You are the network administrator for a company. You are configuring a network consisting of 100 client computers and six subnets for the company's new office. You configure the first two subnets and configure client computers on both subnets for testing. You test the initial configuration and discover that not all of the client computers can communicate with each other.

The two subnets are shown in the following diagram.

gateway1 gateway2
ip 131.107.5.193 131.107.5.207
mask 255.255.255.248 255.255.255.248

wks11 wks12 wks21 wks22
ip 131.107.5.198 131.107.5.195 131.107.5.206 131.107.5.213
mask 255.255.255.248 255.255.255.248 255.255.255.248 255.255.255.248
gateway 131.107.5.193 131.107.5.193 131.107.5.214 131.107.5.214

All client computers must be able to communicate with each other. What should you do?

A. Change the subnet mask of all the client computers and on the two gateways to 255.255.255.240.
B. Change the subnet mask of all the client computers and on the two gateways to 255.255.255.252.
C. Change the IP address for Gateway2 to 131.107.5.214 and the IP address for WKS21 to 131.107.5.210.
D. Change the IP address for WKS11 to 131.107.5.190 and the IP address for WKS12 to 131.107.5.191.

i'm guessing C coz gateway1 will be for wks11 and wks12 and gateway2 will be for wks21 and wks22 but what i don't understand is why the need to change the ip for wks21? or is there another answer?

C is a good guess. As the question is posed, WK21 and the gateway are on the 200 sub net and WK22 is on the 208 sub net. It would be easier to drop WK22 to the 200 sub net, but that is not an offered answer. Raising WK21 and the gateway to the 208 sub net is a valid choice in answer C.

Good luck to you. Where did you get these questions? I use the Microsoft Readiness Review and their practice questions are not this detailed.
