I sort of remember that there is a repair utility for when 2000 pro has corrupted files. Can anybody tell me how to access this or give me a link to an explanation of it. Thanks in advance.

if you were to over-install win2k, there is an option to repair previous install or words to that effect. is that what you are looking for?

thecomeons is right.

Put the W2K CD in the drive bay and reboot. When prompted chose the option to restore and repair the operating system.

Thanks for your input. The recovery console is what I was thinking of. The reference chapter you gave me Kidvegas is very informative....I'm wading thru it now. Also appreciate the repair installation advice, comeons....but my CD is apparently not bootable....because it won't boot from it, even tho I have it set to boot from CD rom in the bios.
