| Under Windows 2000 Professional what is the maximum size of a FAT 16 partition??
From Sybex MCSE Study Guide it says "upto 2GB"
From MCSE Training Guide (70-210) by New Rider it says "maximum size of a FAT partition is 4GB"
Which is right??

| max size is 4GB on NT based OS

how can you make a fat16 with 4gb size if for example fdisk only allow 2 gb max?..... as i know the limitation on file systems says that fat 16 is a 2gb max size but i see on several books something regarding 4 gb sizes on nt and 2k regarding fat16
|
| Dont use fdisk, use the partition manager in nt/2k setup. | |

ah........ i believe that...... ok.
so.......
win95 fat16
win95b fat16 or fat32
win98 fat16 and fat32
winme fat16 and fat32
win nt 3.50 hpfs, ntfs 4, fat16
win nt 4 ntfs 4, fat16
win 2k fat16, 32 ntfs5
fat 16 max 2 gb / on NT can be 4 gb.

man, that's funny. i didn't come across that in my a+ studies.
okay, so the 2gb limit on fat16 is a restriction in fdisk/dos/win9x as winnt can format up to 4gb?

| have a look a lexy's link, the limitation is in cluster size that dos and win9x can handle. NT can handle a bigger cluster size that's why it will make a 4GB fat16 partition. | |

| This is true, every time that I need to confirm partition sizes, then I look at that link.
They should know about partition sizes for their own products.
It's the only place you need to reference and it hasn't failed me yet.

| hey, lex, couldn't help notice you have decided to rephrase the certificates you have achieved and are seeking. do we expect you have "i suck!" in your signature too? | |

| No, Ruscorp still holds that honor!
As NT 4.0 is totally invalid in this day and age and being a washed out has been, I didn't see the point to listing anything I've achieved or want to achieve in the future.
Being jealous and full of hate for those who want to get ahead doesn't help either!
If you believe this or take it seriously then you believe my comments in AMD's thread!!
People do get wound up or "have their spot rocked" quite easily at the moment.
