Hi everyone,

I'm planning to do exam 70-210. Would you please give me some advice... How long would it take to study for this exam? Where is the best source of Infor I can get to prepare for the exam since there are two much websites advertise their study guides...

At the moment I have the study guides (four books for 70-210, 70-215, 70-216, 70-217) from Osborne. It is the 2000 Edn, so is it sufficient enough? Some people recommend Microsoft Press but they are a bit expensive...

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Phillip and welcome to the forum! I'd also recommend MS Press instead Osborne or any other publisher. How long you'll prepare for this exam depends entirely on you. I recommend setting up a small network lab with at least 2 PCs. Hands-on experience is the key to pass MS exams, so practise as much as you can. In addition to your materials you can get a cramsession.com 70-210 study guide, but unfortunately it's not free anymore.

Here're some links that may help you in your preparation:

and of course this forum! If you have any questions, feel free to ask us!

Hi NetChild1985,

Thanks for your advice. Actually I just joined this forum recently thus I need to spend sometime to get familiar with it.

It seems to me that this forum is very helpful for those preparing to do MCSE exams.

I wish to sit for the first exam ASAP but I have some problems. In the first place English is not my first language, apart from that I do not have a lot of time to spend for my study.

It took me almost three months to finish the A+ exams. Honestly I had a hard time with it, but it's over now. I will study harder this time since I plan to get certified at the earliest possible time..

Philip - take your time to learn what you are studying. Rushing to take a MS test will only frustrate you and cost you extra money. You need a computer at hand running the 2000 OS and you need to do the labs and exercises in the book you have. Each of the core exams build upon each other, so if you take the time and invest it wisely when studying for 210 you will find the rest of the MS exams that much easier.

If you read a concept and you don't understand it, feel free to post it here. The test is offered in multiple languages and I think you even get more time allotted to take the test if you test in non-English format.

Welcome to the forums and best of luck to you in your studies.

Thanks for your advice, Pavlow. I'll try my best. In the future I would definately need help from this forum.

At the moment I still have problem with navigation around this site. Yesterday I post a new thread instead of a reply. If anyone can remove it, please do so.

Cheers

You'll need some "hands on" experience. Probably, this is most important for all future MCSEs. So, set up your home lab and practice. Personally, I don't like MS study guides. I would recommend Sybex. Their study guides are more exam focused. In addition, you can try some practice exams before your exam to check your knowledge on the area. Check these out: EasyCert (www.jrksoftware.com) and Transcender (www.transcender.com). There are different oppinions which one is the best, but they both are great and very helpful.

Good Luck!

Thanks all for your advice. At the moment I have covered the first few chapters in my study guide.

I also have a Sybex CD but haven't started using it yet. This CD has many features ranging from the EBook, Simulations, practice questions and so forth. I will try it once I cover most of the topics in my current study guide (Osbourne). Actually I prefer the Win2K books from Sybex, especially those written by Mark Minasi.

So far I did not have much problem, except some of the networking features of Win2K Pro which requires a connection with NetWare Server. I don't have any chance to do it.

I'll keep you posted if I have problems. In the mean time, thanks a lot..
