| Passed 70-210 on Sunday. Thanks to all those who answered my questions.
What I used to study:
Purchased the Core Box Set MCSE Training Kit by Microsoft Press. Got it on Ebay for only $50.
Read the book cover to cover. Did all the practice labs on two machines I setup.
Used Transcenders to gauge exam readiness.
What I saw on the test:
Alot of RRAS, RIS, internet sharing, configuring laptops, printing, & permissions. Also there are quite a few exhibit networking questions like finding the missing server, and looking at the output of an ipconfig/all and finding the problem.
Good Luck To All!
Onward to 215! | |

| I agree with your assessment.
I took it Friday and found it to be rather difficult.
There were many architecture questions (place the missing server, service for remote installation, NETBIOS resolution etc. as well as many Net+ type solve the problem with this network questions) I even had one involving a UNIX plotter on a TCP network and one of my questions dug up the old Netware in a TCP scenario. There were many remote access questions (involving security such as MS-CHAP). Yes there were many laptop questions too (configuring multiple hardware profiles) and several on using multiple monitors (and the appropriate resolutions). There seamed to be a lot of questions on deploying service packs over the network and GPO’s. MS is also fixated with driver signing and NFTS permissions (i.e. you move a file from one encrypted folder to another what happens type questions).
I did not feel good about my chances while I was taking the test. About 20 questions into it I felt as though I was not doing well and was as surprised as anyone to see the "Congratulations message" at the end. I know I hit a t least 20 cold, and had to use process of elimination on 20 more. Then there were those 20 that I absolutely had problems with and had to take a SWAG. I just couldn’t figure how to study for this one and be prepared well enough to waltz through it.
I studied for exactly four weeks using the Sybex 70-210 book.
I have to say that I found this one to be tough. To me it was tougher than CCNA.
Oh well, I am off to A+ so I can get my MCSA elective.

More or less word for word the same experience I had with the test. "Seconds that felt like hours" when I'd pressed that final "end exam"
Congratulations | |

| Hlang,
There are several types of passing.
Magna Cum Laude = with hign honors
Summa Cum Laude = with honors
Thank the laude = by the skin of your teeth
I think I am a bona fide member of the last one.

Make that two hardboiled eggs
As a "non-native English speaker living in a non-English-speaking country" , I had to pull my Webster's down from the shelf to fully grasp the meaning of the quoted.
So apart from constantly improving my knowledge about win2k, this forum is also increasing my active vocabulary .

| I apologize- I did not make the connection.
Basically is was a little joke we run down here in Texas. People who graduate universities generally are awarded Magna or Summa Cum Laude (if they receive honors) but if you graduate "Thank the laude" (pronounced "thank the lordy") then you are saying forget about honors- thank the lord because I passed.
I understand that you did not get it because it was not THAT funny in English. I lived in Spain for one year and back and forth to Thailand and the Middle East so I can relate to struggling with language. If you had said nothing I never would have known since your written English is superb- even better than many native speakers on this board. |
