| Happy Halloween Everyone! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/pumpkin1.gif
Dracula has a Windows 2000 computer that has suddenly become very, very slow. He initially expects the reason to be the work a Gremlins. But before he starts looking for them, he wants to determine if a program maybe causing the problem and termintate the offending program with the least amount of administrative effort and without affecting the other running programs on his system.
Assuming that there is in fact a program that is causing the problem, Dracula asks his network administrator, Frankenstein, what method, if any, he can use to identify the offending program and to terminate it without affecting other running applications? (Pick the best choice)
A. Restart the system.
B. Use System Monitor.
C. Use Task Manager.
D. This is not possible.
Good luck and see you tomorrow for the answer!

| C is the answer. By viewing the processes tab he can check which process is using the highest percentage of the cpu time. Then simply... TERMINATE IT!!! MUAHAHAAAAAAAA!

| I like a little originality as well in these QotD. Spid has them in spades heh.
Am going with answer (C) Use Task Manager to find and eliminate the gremlin process.
| hazz_bin 2002-10-31, 7:34 pm |
| Ah yes, end process, one of my favorite pastimes. End process tree is even more fun. So, that would be C, my good friend Task Manager. | |

And the answer is.....C
If a program/application is misbehaving, stuck, etc.. you can identify the offending program/application in the Processes Tab in Task Manager. To terminate the program, highlight/select its process and click End Process. If it has child processes, as Hazz_bin eluded to, you can end the applications Process Tree as well.
Nice job everyone. | |

| With the least amount of administrative effort being the goal it is most assuredly c.
It can be done with System Monitor with some configuration, buy hey- Drac has to get back to the coffin before sunrise.

| I C said the blind man as he peed in the wind! | |
| Forsaken 2002-11-01, 2:34 pm |
| Well, I'll have to answer 'C'.
The reason I say this is as follows:
1) Dracula's fangs are kinda shaped like the letter 'C'
2) Frankensteins bolts in his neck are kinda shaped like the letter 'C'
3) Dracula has the letter 'C' in it.
4) Spid can 'C' me right now from over his cubicle.
Hehe, I'd still go with C..its straight forward, quick, and I've used this actiuon several times.
