I'm planning on using my network+ and A+ as an elective towards my mcsa. Will I have to turn in my certifications if I do? It only counts towards an elective for mcsa so I'll still have to take that elective test if I want to be mcse. I've already been to the microsoft website but I want to hear from other people that have done it.

First - did you take both CompTIA exams through the same test center (VUE or Prometric)? I didn't and it created a delay in my process. If you tested from VUE for one and Prometric for the other, you need to contact CompTIA and have them switch both under one account - either VUE or Prometric.

Once you have taken and passed your first MCP exam you can go online at the CompTIA site - there's an online application that you need to fill out. You will need to provide them with your MCP number so that they can forward the information to MS. You'll either receive an email notifying you that there was a problem and giving you contact numbers or you'll log onto your MCP Secured site and check your transcript and see both exams listed with your MS exam(s).

You will still have to take 210, 215, and 218 to complete the MCSA. You'll need to take 216 and 217 along the way toward the MCSE. Then you'll need at least one design exam (most have gone with 219 or 221). Then one more elective of your choice - SQL and Exchange are popular, but Security is a good choice too.

Hope in all this babbling you found the answer your were looking for

Your explanation was very thorough pavlov.
However, I find myself reading through the MS 70-270 Training Kit book and taking notes like I do for all cert books. Looks I'm going to attempt to pass this instead of 70-210. We'll see if it turns out that way however. Just doesn't seem to be too much action in the Windows XP exams forum.

Btw zaddius, you can pass 70-270 (XP) instead of 70-210 (Win2KPro) to fulfill one of the core requirements for MCSA as well.
