| Deja-vue 2002-10-21, 6:49 pm |
| Don't let it get to you.
Just one Reason to study harder.
It takes more guts to admit that you failed, then to post that you passed. My Respect!
Hope you will get back to the Books and answer some of Spid's QOD, get some Hands on and back to the Test in no Time.
Good luck the next time.
| |
| ruscorp 2002-10-21, 7:39 pm |
| Yes, the pass/fail sucks monkey a$$. However work on where you know that you are weak. You have already taste this test 2x, you should know what they will throw at you next time. Good luck! | |
| tweetgirl 2002-10-21, 8:10 pm |
| Please do not give up. You can do it. Just focus on your weakness but do not give. | |
| namrak 2002-10-22, 12:50 am |
| Sorry about your bad news oldsaltdoggie. Focus on the topics you feel need brushing up and give it another shot. I definitely feel for you as none of us test takers like getting money shots to the wallet for retakes.
I agree with Deja. It tough to admit you failed a test and this post serves a notice to those who believe certification tests are a gimmie, which they are not. Best of luck on your next attempt!

Salty, try and remember which questions troubled you during the test, then find out what subject they were on. Review those chapters, take a couple of practice tests and make sure that those subjects are not troublesome anymore.

| Don't worry about it. If you have enough determination to Pass, you will. I had to take 210 2 times before I passed it. I am dealing with the same hard luck for 215 now. I have taken it 2 times already. I know how you feel, beleive me, but I am determined to get my MCSE. It makes me even more determined once I fail an exam. However, the PASS/FAIL thing is just a NIGHTMARE! I hate it with a passion. It is unfair to do that to test takers. It is so depressing to me, but I am using that anger to pass the next exam. I just want to see PASSED on that last screen. Best of luck to you. | |

| maybe I am pushing my luck here, but I'd like the opinion, again, of someone who knows better...
I got dis here MCSE NT and no electives expire until June 2004.
I'm thinking instead of launching into the 70-210/215/216 and "upgrading" my processor right away -
I would try on the SQL 2000 and 215/216 and get me the MCDBA. Then the way I read the requirements, I could do the MCSE2000 with only 3 more tests. (maybe not easy ones, but 3 is not alot more after the NT and MCDBA).
Is the DBA valued?
Is this course much harder than specializing?
Should I just move into a cardboard box and never have to think about certifications again?
drdirt | |

| Personally,
I think that the exams and certifications are overrated!!!! If I had to do it all over again, I would NEVER give my money to Micro$oft for courses and exams. It is just a way for Micro$oft to make money, and that is ALL! I have to get my MCSE just to prove something to myself, but I think that all of the HYPE about these exams is misguided. It is like a cult to be completely honest. I have a bachelor's in EET and that is what has gotten me where I am. Not the fact that I am a MCP. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY on another cert!!
My personal advise.....

| but we digress...
the DBA is still a cert in demand today, at least in the market I am in. The MCSE 2K is also still in demand in my market, but clearly not in others. I think that it would be a good idea for you to ask around and get a feel for what is in demand in your area. In mine, Cisco and LInux skills are in high demand if you can add them to a proven MS background. Needless to say, that is what I have been focusing on, and it landed me my current job...
| drdirt 2002-10-28, 9:45 pm |
| Sorry to be the killjoy -
Linux is about unheard of in my locale. There is a linux based web co in town. Downsized last year from about 100 to 3.
I think I've got the skinny on the local market. Won't bore you with details, but you got a little choice in databases.
So would you call the MCDBA an indication that you can learn to be a MS SQueeL DBA???
I think in the longrun I want alot better coding skills - needed for scripting sure, but may give me better employment without having to take on the headaches of management.
BTDT.
Any suggestions on database skills?
Any on coding skills?

| Freak,
Didn't you say you taught at college level once?
You know how students get their panties in a wad about stuff before they even try it?
Now think about when you first were tried IP subnetting? Seemed confusing and intractible?
Now how about subnetting? Isn't it pretty straight forward? You don't even have to remember much, just the basic rules/pattern and you work it out when you need to?
If learning were really only a matter of intelligence, most politicians would never have learned to walk.
| freak 2002-10-28, 11:30 pm |
| I am dyslexic. Coding to me is a nightmare. I just don't have it, but at the same time I made my peace with it because I did try. that's all I can expect from myself
As for subnetting, I always rocked from day one -- yeah, right
| OmnipotentOne 2002-10-29, 12:20 am |
| Subnetting is a breeze, it’s all those damn words in exams that throw me off.
*note* I had to spell check breeze before posting this, and it was indeed spelt wrong *note*
| drdirt 2002-10-29, 12:31 am |
| So Freak, (I really like writing that...)
Maybe coding isn't worth the effort to you. But, you faced the same challenge to subnet.
So don't mystify the coders like they are part Merlin part Lao Tsu.
(Warning- below lies Pedantic Speach #316)
Doing anything well ain't easy. It is more art than effort, takes more finesse then muscle.
Notice my noob questions in the forums here. I am paying some dues in networking. But I've payed in a couple other areas along the way.
Its all in enduring until it comes naturally.
Shoot, back in the day, I did numeric models of partial differential equations in fortran. On a card reader! We had to do memory overlays (manual virtual memory) on a mainframe cause it only had 256K ram and the OS didn't handle it! I remember that Univac 1180 -
I had no idea what a GUI was, or IP. I had an ARPANET mail account - but didn't know how the heck that worked. 'C' (not C++ yet) was this amazing tool we only heard the comp sci department talk about.
Most of us engineers/scientists then looked at network wonks with awe. "We" weren't computer guyz - we were just engineers who used a little fortran to do engineering... The wonks new all the secrets that kept the electrons moving......(obviously not electrical engineers)
It changed my outlook. The person who can run a project ontime and at-budget - or the mechanic who replaces my timing belt - or the office administrator that makes sure that the reports go out and the supplies don't run out--
And, given the interest and the time, we could probably all learn to do anything. My problem is I am too short on interest AND time!
( End Pedantic speach #316)

Salty, better luck next time around. btw, I know what it's like to have a schedule that doesn't always jive with what can be worked in. First things first, get the important points, the rest seem to fill themselves in as you go along, I'm just now filling in some of the blanks left from A+,210 and 215, and probably will continue to do so for some time.
