Happy Friday everyone!

As everyone will tell you, there is plenty of overlap between the 210 and 215 exams. GPO's are just one of the topics you'll encounter on both exams. This question has to do with deploying MSI, MST and ZAP files to OU's via GPO.

Tweetgirl is a network administrator for a brewery. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/guin.gif. All the computers are currently running Windows 2000 Professional. She needs to install Microsoft Excel. The catch is that Excel should only be available on the computers that are in the Administrative OU.

Tweetgirl packages Microsoft Excel as an .MSI file, defines the package in a GPO and links the GPO to the Administrative OU. The next morning, while drinking coffee and munching on a bagel, she notices that Microsoft Excel has not been deployed to any of the computers in the Administrative OU.

How should Tweetgirl deploy/redeploy the package to the computers in the Administrative OU so she can get back to more important things like keeping up on current events, drinking coffee and eating bagels? (Select the best answer)

A. She should repackage the Excel package as a MST (transform)package and deploy it to the Administrative OU.

B. She should repackage the Excel package as a ZAP file and deploy it to the Administrative OU.

C. She should create a Windows Installer shortcut for the Excel application.

D. She should repackage the MSI file and redeploy the package to the Administrative OU.

E. She should say the heck with it, call up Slinky, and let him handle it. (Her coffee is getting cold)

Have a great weekend everyone! See you Sunday night/ Monday morning for the answer.

The answer is D. But I think there should have been an option F: Call up Slinky, let him repackage the MSI file and redeploy the package to the Administrative OU so my coffee does not get cold!!!!!!

my Answer is D.

The MST File is used to customize or update a MSI File, but not to deploy.
ZAP Files are used for legacy apps.
The MSP is used to re-package the MSI file.

I would also say D but I wouldnt know why. I see this answer on the transcender, I saw it on the exam, I see it everywhere...

But why would redoing the same thing you did yesterday work this time?

Or am I missing something?

And the answer is....D

I know, this isn't the best question out there, but out of the possible answers provided, it is the only one that is close to being correct.

The MSI file that tweetgirl created is in all likelihood corrupt. Tweetgirl should repackage the MSI file and re-deploy it to the Administrative OU. (Or as I like to say, let's push the car back up to the top of the hill again to see if the brakes still don't work )
