I have accidentally loaded windows me and 2k on the same partition. My computer is acting very strange and freezes at random. I don't want to back the whole system up because I will also back up the corupt files. Can anyone tell me how to resolve this problem?
Or, what files to take of that will rid the system of 2K.
Thank you,
Reed T.

If it were me, I would back up whatever data files I wanted to keep, and start over. Do a clean install of ME (if you must ) - use a tool like Partition Magic to create a partition to install Win 2k onto. Then install Win 2k onto the new partition.

I have a machine that also has ME and 2k sharing the C:\ drive and as soon as I finish my MCSE this week I plan to wipe it clean and start over to clear up the oddities created by sharing the system files between the two OS's - oh, that machine is triple booting for me with a separate partition running 2000 Advanced Server. I think I will clean it out and make it only a server - it served me well while working through all the labs in the training kits along the way to the MCSE.

I have used partition magic and I keep getting a message that it won't work with this operating system (me).

do as pavlov recommened, backup up system files, then use FDISK to delete partition(s) and then create one partition (not across the whole disk but maybe half), format with fat32, install ME (if you really have to. better 98SE if you have). then run the windows 2k installation and specify which folder and get it to create a second partition and install it on that. then install your backed up data to which ever OS you want

i've done this with most of my workstations at home they all have 98se and win2k pro dual boot.

Why in the world would you ever switch from Windows 2000 to ME?

I had me since I bought this computer. I only had the 2000 trial version from the ms study guides. But that leads me to a question. If I was going to upgrade to 2000, what should I upgrade to--- 2000 pro or xp. I do a lot with music files on my home computer and was just wanting advice.
Thanks,
Reed T.

I like XP more than 2K. It's got a nice feel to it. But I'd say they're pretty much the same thing.

One word for ya Reed T. - YIKES!

The rest of the people posted good advice. I have nothing to add there.

My experience shows XP is better at gaming than 2K. Other than that, not much difference.

For the rest of you:

If you are like me, we thought we were pretty cool dual and triple and quadruple booting our little systems. Check out this article from maximumpc.com. I don't know if it is amazing or just plain sad!

Impressive!

Thanks for the interesting link kidvegas. That's just mad I say.

As for Win ME being the worst os from MS. Agreed. Hands down. I've got swappable hard drive trays which I use to plumb around with the many different operating system available including ME. Its funny that it only takes a few minutes of tweaking that I lose my desire to play with ME (er, that came out bad didn't it ) and switch to something else like a Linux distro or Win2K Server.
