| Hey I was wondering if this was just me but I seem to be having difficulty with the windows 2000 host files. As far as I can tell everything is in the right place \system32\drivers\etc\ but when I open a web page that has a 127.0.0.1 entry in the host file but it continues to go out the the internet and opening the page.
Can anyone help or would this problem be with the proxy server?
thanx | |

| not sure what are trying to do, but 127.0.0.1 is localhost, that means, it should look at its own local pc. | |

| Okay, I am trying to stop my machine from opening the specified pages by blocking the the site altogether. I also found that if i ping the site I get a 127.0.0.1 reply.
Perhaps IE is too smart for it's own good the entries in the host and lmhosts look like this
127.0.0.1 www.bonzi.com
127.0.0.1 www.brilliantdigital.com
127.0.0.1 www.b3d.com
any further insight would be appreciated

All the sites that you are pointing are spyware, you should be de-installing the application that is hidden in your system or get ad-ware... Those spyware has over taken your pc as its local host. You will need to remove the bonzi buddy and other things, search google for spyware removal, you will get some good information. Good Luck.

| I already hav removed all the spyware, but if you block the sites in the host file it's suposed stop the popup because it looks for it when it can't find the site/page it wants it doesn't open the popup, thus no popup's this host file was given to me by my class mate for this purpose.

| Try downloading and using Ad-Aware anyway.
If you just removed them by add/remove programs, it may not have gotten everything out of your system.
Its a free download, and you'd be surprised at what it finds.
Peace... | |

| The host file that I am trying to use was apparently downloaded form the ad adware site or from a link on the site I don't know where exactly. Either way it was designed to prevent explorer from connecting to the ad sites. |
