| Hi all, I'm having some difficulties with RIS. Works fine until I get to the setup screen, it copies the files over and then goes to this:
Setup cannot find a previous version of Windows installed on your computer.
I've used several different .sif files to try to get around that, but no luck. However, it does find the CD, goes to the format warning screen. I press enter and then the system info and stat bar show up for about 15 seconds, then it goes to this:
Setup cannot format the partition.
Your computer may not have enough memory to perform this operation, or your Windows 2000 CD-ROM may contain some corrupted files.
Setup cannot continue.
Notes pertaining to this: I'm doing this in a VMWare virtual machine (but it worked before this way), the RAM was 192, then 256, and I tried 2 W2K CDs, another i386 from a network share, and an expanded SP2 install CD. Since the successful try I've re-installed W2K Server and W2K Pro (where I run VMWare, but shouldn't have anything to do with the Remote Install). Have quadruple checked all DNS, DHCP, and AD settings. Anyone experience this glitch? Thanks.

| Wow, thanks Spid. Of course, I had already searched TechNet and found nothing. What search criteria did you enter? I'll redo the setup and see what happens.
A tip of the hat and thanks again.

| Glad I could help hazz_bin.
The search criteria I used was:
"Setup cannot find a previous version of Windows installed on your computer"
It only pulled up the one article Q300556

| That did it. Setup RIS to point to what I knew was not a developer copy and it performed flawlessly. I'll remember to try the entire error with quotes in TechNet next time. Thanks again.
