| I have this situation: 1 Win NT server, 10 win 98 workstations, connected by a hub. I am getting cable Internet through a cable modem, with 6 possible dynamic IP addresses. I want to use a router between the modem and the hub. how can I configure this so I can give internet access to 6 computers? | |

| Use a cable/DSL router | |

| 1.Add a 2nd nic
2.You use RRAS.Type it into any search engine (or read an NT admin book) and you can set it up.
From there if you get stuck.Id be more than happy to assist.Just make sure you give an idea of your configuration.

| I'd go the cable/dsl router path. You can get a 1 port netgear or linksys pretty cheaply and then uplink the hub. The router will give you internet access (and allocate IPs dynamically) for your PCs and provide protection from intrusion. If you do go with the second NIC and RRAS solution, make sure you install a firewall on the server. Either solution will work fine, but I think the cable router is the better choice. Just my .02

| I agree with the cable/dsl. Been installing them in business/school environments--work great. The Linksys gives you 253 connections.
If you use NT RAS, you're just setting up another router and ALL machines in the internal network will need live IP addresses. Windows 2000 does a great job with this if your thinking about upgrading.
