| I am just about to set up 2 machines, one with advanced server, the other W2k pro. Just wondering if there are any things I should be aware of before I go ahead. Ie: optional modules I need to install etc.
I am obviously using it to practice for my pro and server exams.
Thanks in advance | |

| That is exactly the same set up that I've just set up - connected by a crossover cable rather than a hub. I've had no problems at all setting it up, and if I can do it anyone can!!!
Good Luck!

| ...afraid not.......its the Rugby League team...St Helens.
Yeah connecting them using a xover cable for the mo..will maybe get a cheap hub later.
Any specific things I need to know...is RIS installed automaticallly on server or do I have to check it as an option? etc
btw how u goin on your exams freddie

| I Still had to install RIS, but nearly everything can be installed at the installation stage.
On my set up I have Ad Server & Prof Installed twice so one set is in a domain and another in a workgroup - that way You can practice it all!
I'm still studying for my 210 which I reckon I will take by the end of September, quickly followed by the 215. Then It's back to London (I live in B'mth) for another wekks training at Simply Training - who I would recommend to anyone - to do the next stage.
What exams are you taking?
Good luck with the network

| I'm also doing pro and server. Going throu both courses before I take the exams but unfortunately its self study for me.
Call me a thickie but you mean install server and pro twice on both machines
ie: machine 1 : 2 primary partitions both with ad serv
machine 2 2 primary partitions both with pro?
You do this using pqmagic and boot magic?
Why do it this way? Saves all that time reinsstalling I suppose .
Best of luck with 210 and 215 anyway

| Talking about RIS, here I have a question
Let see, on the book it said the RIS cannot install in the same system partition and so does the image folder (i386) as well.
So is that mean now I have 1 PC running
w2k Server, have DHCP, have DNS on drive C
and I need to open a new partition let say
drive D, and install the RIS ON DIRVE D ???
cuz drive D is a brand new partition with system stuff on it
also and after I authorize DHCP to assign IP for the client, and at the final step on the RIS configure, it ask me where should the image folder (i386) should be create. So
should I install it on drive D as well? or I need to open ANOTHER new partition for it since it also said it cannot locate in the same partition with the system files.
Im using exam cram | |

| Hi!
What I mean is to install w2k serv on C: & win2k Prof on d: on machine 1 and two installs on prof on machine 2.(C: & D: again). Then you can have machine 1 in a domain with machine 2 (serv to prof) and machine 1 in work group with machine 2 (prof to prof). That way you can practice domains & workgroups.
I Hope I've explained myself - as I've confused myself- and I wrote it!!
