I have just started a job that involves having to pass win2kpro and server in 3 months. I have looked around, and with every subject, there are 100s of books, guides etc to choose from. Is there one that can be recommended by qualified people? Are those brain dump type sites worth trawling through or not. I can't waste too much time looking around cos I need to sit both exams before Xmas.

This is one of those things that is only limited by the credit limit on your Visa card.

If you can afford it, or the boss will pay for it, take the Microsoft Course 2152, Implementing Microsoft Windows 2000 Pro and Server. It is a 40 hour course. It will give you a good foundation for the two exams. Also, the Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC) course material that you get with this course is good study and reference material. You'll also get 120 day evaluation copies of Win 2000 Pro and Win 2000 Advanced Server with this MOC.

CBT Nuggets offers a CDROM video course, which I have found to very helpful. It is a great subsitute for taking the course, and much cheaper. They advertise in this forum.

The best books are;

1. Windows 2000 MCSE Study System Alan R. Carter

2. MCSE Training Kit : Microsoft Windows 2000 Core Requirements

I can't say enough good things about the Alan Carter book. It covers the four core topics very well. The Microsoft Press books can be purchased individually and are good because they follow the MOC. So if you can't take the course these are good substitutes.

Practice test come in all shapes and forms;

The premier one is Transcender, it the most expensive also, time to hit up the boss again. They don't copy the test word-for-word, but are very through and give great explanations.

The webmaster of Examnotes would like for you to try his sister site http://www.Cert21.com . I have not used it so I have no opinion on it. But many have on this forum and the post have good reviews.

Troy Technologies is another study guide which I have used successfully and would recommend. It has sample questions.

Braindumps are all over the net. A word of caution though. They are full of errors and wrong answers. So user beware.

The best teacher is hands on, so if you can set up a practice network and using the Alan Carter book you can learn by doing.

Aim High!

Use LimeWire or any of the Gnutella GUI's to find exams. There are alot there, search by the test number or the brand of test you are looking for

I've not yet taken any 2000 track certs, but I have purchased the Nuggets and in my opinion with this CBT, Exam Cram books, free online practice test, and a home network, 2 months may be enough.
