TODAY I did a clean install of Win2k prof. on my box. I partioned my 20GB HDD into three partions Disk0, Disk1,Disk2 with FAT32 and wanted to dual boot with Win ME...
I installed Win2k prof on Disk0, and Win ME on disk1 (in that order)..
On rebooting I could not have any option to choose an OS, the only available OS was Windows ME..
Where did I go wrong?
Can some one help?

Thanks

Dhooooo....

You should have installed ME 1st then Win2K... its a common mistake.

What Win2K does is that it re-wites the boot sector, and it will only see win2K or a previous version if it is installed, it will not see it if you install windoes 95/8 or ME after 2K.

Bummer eh...best way to learn though

I am considering upgrading 98 to ME, will the boot sector be written over by the upgrade?

Hi,
fixing the problem you are facing with needs a very small knowledge of win2000.
to do so first you have to use your win2k CD Rom to start the setup program, then in the page instructing to install or repair the current installation press R to switch to recovery console, then enter the administrator password and when login to the shell rebuild the MBR and boot record.
restarting the system will cause the win2k to load and when you are in edit the boot.ini file and add an entry in the ARC path section for the WinME and that will end your nightmare. Hope it will help

Thanks Guys... What I did installed ME first and Win2k later, Win2k was on the first partition (C) and ME on the second (D) and both partitions were FAT32. I was able to dual boot at that moment..
Then I wanted to try something Extra???
I converted the fisrt partition that had Win 2k to NTFS (by running, convert C: /fs:ntfs)!
The file system was converted succesfully, and on rebooting my option of choosing which OS to use was still there.. Booting in Win2k was working fine ..But then I run into more problems.. The ME could not boot on selecting it!!!!
What have I done wrong again???

Thanks

Bingo!!
I seem to have figured out what was wrong
First I reformated the HDD and made three partitioins... C,D, and E.
C= FAT32
D=NTFS
E=FAT32
I installed Win ME on C and it worked fine.
Then using Win2k CD I installed Professional on D (NTFS) and insatalled Win2k here..
Now everything works fine.. Am able to dualboot win ME and prof. with no problem and my Win2k professional is on an NTFS partition!! And this is exactly what I intended to do!
This was a learning exprience for me!.

Thaks guys..see u around.
