| I want to take exam 70-210 to become an MCP. I don't want to go all the way to be the an MCSE (at least not yet - too much money!) So today I signed up for a course called Network & Operating systems Essentials, which according to the description prepares you for the 70-210 and also the 70-215 exam. However, there is another course after that which also prepares you for the 70-210 called Supporting Win2k Pro & server. I really only want to take that first course (Essentials) because I'd have to shell out $1,000 more dollars for the other. Question is: do I need to take both courses to be able to pass 70-210? I'm about to take the A+ OS which involves a bit of win2000, and looking over the exam notes a lot of it I've seen studying for the A+ -- it just maybe goes deeper into it on the 70-210 exam. Opinons? Thanx. | |

| I can understand you. But, you are in a better position then me. I can only take exams because of monetary problems. You don't have to take classes if you have time and at least 2 computers. So, you can try and learn everything. Also, books and traning sites on the net may be useful. I advice you that try to make hands-on practice to remember what you've learned.
Good Luck! | |

| Networking essentials doesn't prepare you for the 70-210 test. This class would be a waste of your time if you hoping to pass the 70-210 with only one class.
If you are taking 2152 (supporting Windows 2000 Professional and Server), it is a much better class and will be of more help on the 70-210 test. I would also recommend getting outside sources (read books) for this test.
Neither one on it's own will provide all the answers, but 2152 provides a much more detailed knowledge than Networking essentials.
My best recommendation is to take 2152, read MS Press books, and practice in a lab.

| So Networking Essentials is kinda like a preperation course huh. If I skip MCSE 2151, would I have any difficulties in MCSE2152? While taking that I'll be taking an advanced Data Communication/Networking class (last year I took intro to data comm.), so it's not like I'm a total newbie to networking. | |

| 2152 covers most of the same ground as 2151. 2151 covers some "networking essentials" like tcp/ip, but it doesn't show you how to configure a client running Windows 2000.
2151 is only 3 days. It might be necessary for some people, but I can't advise you on that without knowing your experience and training. You can NOT pass the 70-210 with just this class. Heck, it would be hard to pass the 70-210 with just 2152, but 2152 would give you a fighting chance.

| Thanks for the advice. If money was no problem, I'd take both course. But 2152 is over a thousand dollars, and 2151 is $800+. Does 2152 just not cover everything on the exam? | |

| 2151 doesn't come close.
2152 covers the material, but not deeply enough. At least not for me. Coupled with MS Press, it covers a great deal of ground. |
