| I am using Syngress study guide for Win2k Pro
Is this a good book compared to the others
Or do I need to get another ? I'm thinking of buying Microsoft's Readiness Review. Any suggestions ? | |

| I usually stick to M$ press. Their books are boring, but they are thorough. Syngress doesn't have the best reputation . . . | |

| While using Syngress books to get MCSE+I and Cisco certifications, I found that Syngress books usually have more information than you need to know for the test, and such a thing is exactly what I am looking for. Basically they seem to cover pretty much everything you will need to know, but also elaborate on things that you SHOULD know, but might not be tested on. In learning about Windows 2000, I would rather have this sort of information (along with other books that will focus on the test topics specifically) than just learning how to pass a test.
I just finished the New Rider's book and am in the beginning stages of the Syngress book. New Rider's was a good book with detailed information. However, they seem to lack on the "real world" type explanations and only have a few "On the exam" type notations. Syngress may be long (700 pages until the appendix) but they include a ton of screenshots, figures, explanations, etc and the book actually reads very quickly.
It might be overkill, but I usually read four books for each test - two "large" books, a condensed book like Exam Cram, and a super-condensed book like the Readiness Review. Between all these sources, I usually find more than enough information that I need to pass. |
