Why can't I uninstall games?

| Why can I uninstall Games from W2k server but not W2k Prof? Games and more are found under "Add/Remove Windows Components" on W2k Server. But not on W2k prof? Why?

| I was wondering the same things. As soon as I delete, them, they come back! | |

I think that is Windows File Protection at work. It trys to "repair" the damage. If the application is properly uninstalled, this should not happen. My problem is, games are not on the uninstall menu. They are on W2k Server, but not on Proffesional. Why?

| Strange...it all works fine on my 3 Win2K Proffessional PC's... mind you there SP'd to the gunnels so that may help.
I can De-install any of the games I have on the systems and when I re-boot...yip there gone...install them again...de-install...Gone. | |
|
| I can't seem to uninstall them since they are not on my uninstall menu, and each time I delete one by hand . . . BOOM, it reappears. I haven't put SP 2 on my machine yet. The net admin here is afeard that it will mess up the Exchange that he is going ot be installing soon. Bloody coward! Anyway, I'll keep trying. | |

I tried to install SP2 on one of the Profs, but it didn't make any difference in this respect.
On the Server machines I can uninstall Games and many other accessories.
Maybe there is something with the way they were installed.

| I'd try re-installing, rebooting and immediately uninstalling.

Thanks for your suggestion, but it would help a lot to know WHY you think that would make a difference. Also, note that if I had to reinstall the entire system, I might as well not install unwanted components in the first place.

| the fact that you can't uninstall the games, I would ALWAYS use the game's uninstall. It makes sure that really all files are cleaned up and no dll's or other system files for the game are left. If the games doesn't have one, well there might be your problem right there. All we coded software should have an uninstaller of their own.
Just my 2 cents | |

| I meant all well coded software... | |

| Also, All "Well" coded software follow the Microsoft Dynamic Link Library, but some do not. They'll bypass MS standards just to get their games to work, but it's not always the right way. Just like TREX said, if they don't have a built in installer, some of those files can be left behind.

Of course the games has a proper uninstall. They do in w2k server and I take for granted that MS didn't make separate versions for Professional. Note also that Yeti does have the uninstall option on his installation of Professional. For some yet unresolved reason, the uninstall option is not available on any Professional installation I have seen. Randy seems to have the same "problem".

| In W2K, are you using an administrators account to install and uninstall?
