70-210 Exam Prep Material & Exam Review

| Well,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I PASSED! I took the exam (70-210) and got a 920. Since I posted the original request for help here, I thought I would let everyone know the results...
REFERENCE MATERIAL REVIEW

1. I used the Sybex book. ( www.sybex.com ) As most of you probably already know, this book is really the best. The chapters mapped out perfectly to the objectives given my Microsoft. Sybex has never let me down before, and they did not this time. The book goes a little too much into detail at times, but I found it overall my best aide in preparing for the exam. Rating: 5/5 Stars
2. I posted an original request asking if anybody had used the VN Publishing program ( www.vnpublishing.com ), but I did not get any responses. Well, I decided, they helped for COMPTIA, so why not give them a shot. The Win2K Pro program was $25. It had 700+ questions, with good detailed explanations. I found that the questions really forced me to think, and not just memorize answers. The Lab Tracker was good, too. It has 90 labs with instructions to complete the labs. While the directions to complete the labs are very elementary, it at least forced me to do tons of exercises that I would probably not have done on my own. Rating: 4/5 stars.
EXAM REVIEW

This exam was not as hard as I had expected. I did not have any "simulation" type questions where I was asked to perform any tasks. Most of the questions were very similar to the VN Publishing and Sybex questions. I did notice that I seemed to have a lot of exhibits though. (Mostly network diagrams asking what's wrong with this picture...)
I spent about 4 weeks of medium-intensity preparation (about 2 hours per day.) About 1/2 of that was spent with hands on doing the labs. I found that really helped.
Well, I hope this helps. I'm off to Server+ next. I'll pick up the Sybex and VN Publishing products for this one too....

| So coincidence, I passed the exam with 920 few weeks ago and I used Sybex as well. But I used the practice test from http://www.itexams.co.uk rather than the VN Publishing program. I will take a look on it later. | |
