Does anyone know how to hide W2K pro in network neighborhood?

You can do this in W9x by removing file and sharing, but does anyone know how to do this in W2K?

I haven't tried it on Win2K but for NT4.0 follow these steps in regedit:
To hide from the browser, edit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\Cur
rentControlSet\Services\Lanman
Server\Parameters
Add value Hidden if it isn't already present (REG_DWORD). Set it to 1.
Reboot the computer.
It may take up to ½ hour for the computer to disappear from the browse lists.
Hope this helps.

If you don't have anything shared out then no one will see inside your machine.

Not totally sure how to disappear if that is what your wanting.

Try this
Right click on My Network Places, select properties. Riht click on local area connection, select properties. Uncheck the file and printer sharing for MS networks box.

Hey...

rctechy, I'm using W2K and need access to my files anywhere on the network. by checking this, I will not have access to these files.

I tried all three. I think the registry edit finally worked. It took overnight, but I can't see my computer through the browser anymore. This is helpful for keeping people out of my computer. Most of the users access my computer through network neighborhood. Now they can't see me. hee hee

Thanks All!!!

hi,
you said to start with that disabling file and print sharing was the method that you used in win98 so I thought that was what you wanted.

disable the server service -- at your own risks -- and you will also remove yourself from the list of PCs potentially sharing stuff, therefore you will stop apearing in the Net Neighborhood thingy.
or better yet: remove net places from ALL your machines on your network!
